Radio Reception
Discussion
Yeh, I think they are all crap (ish). Mod-wise do an aerial upgrade watsit which may help if you need it. Actually mine's not too bad (Sony) provided the signal is fairly strong. I think the aerial is in the nearside rear wing (?) because I have a coax lead coming from there under the passenger floor mat. Wierd thing is that the plug at the end of the lead is there too !!! I can only guess there's another lead somewhere.
Well by the sound of it mine must be the odd one out!
Perfect reception on all channels.
Don't think it's got any boosters/specials fitted.
Do get very low suppression interference on medium wave, from washer pump and wiper motors. Fix, change to FM if it’s raining.
The lodged CD! There is a preset hole on the changer, can't remember where sorry. Perhaps it's in the CD manual.
My CD first played up when I had the CD playing and then started her up. CD went to error and refused to budge. Tried to release the CD cassette a couple of times, and the fault did clear.

Morning
Reception in mine was absolutely terrible
Installed a mod-wise kit - the difference is amazing, reception is about 99% good now
Talk to David Beer (Mod-Wise man) is a top man and very helpful - cost of aerial is about £37.50 I think
I posted a detailed explanation of how to install the aerial kit, link as below:

If your engine is running a bit warm or just for peice of mind, the Mod-wise two stage cooling kit is also excellent - and no I am not on commision from Mod-wise !!

Trouble for me is that I have to go through Cheddar Gorge and over the Mendips on the way to work (where I get most drives) and I lose everything. I'l have a butchers at the mod thingy - thanks.
As far as engine whine and what have you creeping in, I have a custom speaker unit fitted in the back to match up with the transmission tunnel. Sextons in Hereford fitted it but did a terrible job in that pretty much all you could hear was this whining noise. Took it to Sextons in Bath and they fitted an extra gadgety thing for about 50 squids all in that cuts out all that interference. Worth looking into if you have this problem.

Fitting car audio can be a nightmare, you never know what suppression problems you will have until the job is finished. Before you start the job you are expected to give a "to the penny quote" and expected to stick to it. No two units work the same in any given car.
We avoided fitting cheap units at all costs(e.g. Goodmans etc), the first thing that is left out of a unit to cut costs is the suppression electronics.
We found the best way to put people off fitting them was by saying, "you won't need to look at the rev counter anymore then" - always worked.

I fitted the mod wise a few months ago and agree it is very good. Big increase in signal quality. I didn't go to the lengths that Mod500 did to fit it, just chucked the cable under the floor carpet rather than thru the door sill. Took about an hour and a half (from memory) to fit.
Definately worth it...

Bloody Hell MOD500! That sounds really fiddly and complicated - I'll stick to crap reception and CD's
Not at all as complex as it sounds (pardon the pun)
As mentioned you can run it along your carpet trim if you want, and install the kit in no time
Have a good weekend everyone, am looking forward to some dry weather to go for a blast

Supraman, on the stuff i play with(Clarion), if the "regional" is on and listening to "local radio", when the signal begins to fade it will retune to a station of similar type(PI code). Might be the same as yours but not sure the presets should swap.It means that you could travel the whole country enjoying only local radio, maybe best turned off !
Martyn, where is the good weather, i need some too.

Yup ... I'll second what Ribol said. I've done a fair few commercial installs (as well as loads for mates) and car audio is a definite black art. I haven't tried a Tiv yet but even metal bodied cars can be a bitch ... earthing points that are just not up to handling high currents without going high resistance, ignition and alternator noise. Jeez it's enough to make you dispair. On my old 200SX the ECU used to make a lot of electrical noise and on my old MX6 I never managed to completely cure the alternator whine!
