Looking at buying something like this for my old man for xmas

Google throws up some results for buying them, Anyone had experience of any kits or brands?

If you're going to get him something - get the Woodfordes kits, they are a proper ale brewery, and their kit is a bargain. You get the kit, and a proper pressure barrel for about the same as the barrel would normally cost you on it's own!

The only things you'll need extra are something to steralise the kit (I recommend "VWP") and a fermenting bucket.

I use a brewing shop in Bedford (The Happy Brewer - on Union Street), but you can buy this sort of stuff online from other sources, like:

Sadly, Woodfordes own shop doesn't sell the "microbrewery kit", they do sell the ale kits without the barrel though.

There are plenty of books out there too. "Brewing Beers Like Those You Buy" is a good read too.
