I would like to remove the glass over the hatch on my 88. The black on the 3rd brake light, and the surounding top of the hatch, have faded a bit over the years. These stand out bigtime on a black car, and look more like light grey than black.

What seals will be required to re-install the glass, and are there any tricks to getting the glass to remove w/o much struggle?

I had mine taken out before the respray. What the guy did was remove the sealent at the corners with a utility knife. Then used about 1.5m of cheese wire looped it round the glass at one side and 'sawed'. Only took around 10 minutes with no damage to the tailgate. Remaining sealent was then removed with a sharp blade.

Fitting was as simple. He put a bead of bonding sealent around the edge if the glass, Then using thoes glass sucker things lowered into position. Excess sealent can be wiped off with a wet finger.

Steve is right! That is the recommended way to remove the rear glass and the windshield according to my service manual 1988 - 1992
