Forklift Car - Electric dreams

I was thinking about getting a second hand car, striping the drive train and engine and installing a fork lift motor and batteries.

Anybody know anything about this.

I know it might sound mad but I keep dreaming about an fork lift powered car...

I think I've seen one of those.....they called it a milk float.

It has been done, mainly in the states..
There are many many issues to look at, cost, battery types, voltage used, the list goes on.
If you use normal lead acid type batteries the range you get is generaly low..in the region of 30 - 40 miles. If you want longer range then you need to look at Lithiun Iron Phosphate batteries which are not cheep but will last much longer than lead batteries.

Dont think all electric cars are slow, far from it, the new Tesla (electric lotus elise)will do 0-60 in about 4 seconds and has a range of 120 miles between charges..and a Arial atom with a electric conversion beets anything put next to it...
