I have a single bed to get rid of, it a metal frame kids bed cost abot £200 when new and it in excellent condition. I've tried ebay but had no interest (probably because it needs to be collected). Any other places I can try before I just cut it up and take it to the dump ? I dont want any money for it just want rid !

I took a look at freecycle but it requires you to sign up for a yahoo account , then you have to write to them to ask to join and explain why you want to join yada yada yada.. too much hassle just to get rid of a bed.

Anyone know of a charity / organisation who want stuff like this and would collect it ?

Up in Lancaster there is a charity that you call (I think it is run with the local council) and they will come and take away your old furniture for free. My folks have just got rid of an old three piece this way.

Maybe your local council has a similar thing? I'm sure there are plenty of charities in your area that could be able to help out.

Depends where in the UK you are but usually somewhere like your local volunteer centre or community centre would have details of a charity that provide cheap or free furniture to those on benefits.

Just don't tell anyone here you are giving stuff to them hehe

I looked at freecycle (as stated in my OP) but I have a low tolerance threshold when it comes to signing up for stuff, there were so many hoops to jump through I gave up. I know, I know Im a lazy get - its not that hard but I was expecting something like ebay. I dont want a yahoo account I dont want to have to have to beg a moderator to please let me join their little gang. I just want to get rid of the bed.

I'll give gumtree a look otherwise the jigsaw is coming out.

Try emmaus, think thats how you spell it.

They are a charity based for homeless people, they collect the stuff, do it up then resell.

Depots all over the place.

Agree on the Gumtree thing. Stick it in the "Freebies" section and consider it gone!

Also agree at the Freecycle comments. They want people to recycle and donate, etc. but make it the hardest thing to do in the world with the sign up cafuffle.

Couldn't be arsed with all that.

There'll nearly always be some charity supporting homeless/destitute etc people that'll be glad to take something like that off your hands. Not local so no idea who you'd try, but they usually have vans to collect and so on.

You could try leaving it outside your house and see if someone nicks it. If they don't, chain it to something with a bike lock. Then someone will definitely nick it. People will nick anything, so long as it's chained to something.

I know what you mean about joining up with freecycle, but once you've gone through the small amount of pain at the beginning it really is a fantastic way of getting rid of stuff that is too good to dump but you can't sell.

My OH is also currently trying to get rid of a single bed. The council will take it but you have to leave it outside and they might take up to three weeks to come for it, meanwhile there's a bed sitting outside the front... no thanks! There's also something called the Catholic Housing Association in my area (not sure if it's national) that will come and take things.

Just remembered, when I was shopping for a new bed, apparently the British Heart Foundation will come and collect donations of furniture to sell in their larger stores, you could try them ?

I think that when my Grandad passed away the Salvation Army took some of the furniture off my Mum's hands.

Since it's got a metal frame you could modify it into a hang glider, using the mattress material as wing fabric.
I'd be great fun, and if unmanned, it definitely wouldn't come back.
