Is there anyone on this forum who can help me identify the gearbox fitted on my 1972 500L. It seems to drive like a syncro box but I have been told that a box where the starter motor on the top is a 'crash box' and needs to be double declutched. Not so with mine, but it has the starter on the top!. I would not be suprised if it had been changed, as the car was completly rebuilt about 10 years ago.

Many have had 126 boxes fitted which have syncro I think, but can't help you with identifying I'm afraid.

126 boxes are syncr but I always thought first was still a crash gear with the rest syncro?

yes quite possibly, Alfa's were like that, you either have to wait or give it a quick jab at second before selecting first
