Peoples, quite keen on a buying Griff that I have seen but I just need a little info on some bits that I would need to buy....

1) It has been decatted which in my neck of the woods is unfortunately an MOT no no (car would be kept near Guildford so if anyone knows different if they could ping me on the e-mail address in my profile...) As such has anyone bought a cat from a breaker and if so how much is it? Also how easy is it to fit? Could one do it without a ramp?

2) How much is a nose respray?

3) Has anyone (of what one might call a rugby players physique) fitted race seats into a Griff? I am a bit of a lardy bum so wanted to know how easy (and how much) a 16 stone bloke style seat is to fit

4) Has anyone put new carpet into a Griff? Is it easy to get and easy to fit?

5) Can one pop cerb seats into a griff? I assume it is an easy fit. How much are these from a breaker and how much would a standard seat be?

6) The dash on the car I looked at was floating about (particularly the left hand end). Are these easy to locate and would this signify something fundamentally broken behind the dash?

The car I am looking at does not necessarily need all of these things now but it will probably need them at some point so any indication of cost would be greatly appreciated!

George are you planning on using it as a track car or road car? Just curious because of your questions about the seats. Cerb seats do fit, there's some good threads around on here and the Griffith Pages about how to do it, I'll dig them out. Meantime, I'm 15st and have been 16st and don't see why you're concerned. R...

I'm 6ft 3 and nearly 16 1/2 stone and love my Cerberra seats wink

You'll fit one the std seats no problem, mine came with Cerberra seats but it made the car more attractive for me as I find the standard sits I sat on, rather than in, where with the Cerberra seats there is greater lateral support and I find better back support as well.

Fitting new carpets is a pain in the arse. Not for the faint hearted. Carpet sets are freely available but it involves removing several bits and pieces tofit properly. SEE previous thread a few weeks ago for lots more detailed info.

Car I was looking at already has buckets in it (which are a wee bit on the small side...)

As for power it has 360 genuine horsepower so thats enough!

Cats have been fully removed hence the problem with the MOT. Has anyone else fully decatted their car?

Also can the standard gearbox (Borg Warner) cope with large increases in power?

For the main cat it depends how it has been decatted. If the cat has simply been replaced with a y piece then it will be simple to swap back again. As the cat sits in front of the engine it's a relatively simple job; you'll need to get under the car to release it from the main system, which will mean lifting it in some way. I'd have thought a jack and axle stands would be fine.

If custom manifolds and system have been fitted then you'll probably have to find a complete replacement system. Removing the manifolds can be very tricky due to access. I think you'd be best speaking to the owner about this bit - he may even have the old parts still.

Cost? There's one for sale on PH http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/770935.htm

As far as the carpets are concerned - there's an excellent article on The Griffith Pages

The manifold/cat system is the same as the original but the internals have been cut out so it should be relatively simple.

If I bought it would certainly plan on sprinting it but also using it to scare myself on the road!

No problem, mine is coping with 450lb/ft and its the same box that is in the Cerbera which run similar figures to those you mention.
Anything over 400lb/ft though, and its at the limit of std internals. but its relatively simple to have it rebuilt with Quaife internals which will cope with 500lb/ft

Yes lots have, you just need to find a 'friendly' MOT tester smile Or you can do it the other way and buy another y-piece with a cat in it and swap it back in for the MOT. They sound much better without cats though so why would you want to put it back in?!
