Nice places to eat/drink in Harrogate

I will be going to Harrogate on business for three days later this week. I've not been before.

I would like some recommendations for eating and perhaps a little drinking in the evening. I will be without vehicle (going by train y'see - work pays) and time will be a little limited, so town centre would be ideal. I will be with two colleagues.

Any ideas folks?

The Damn Yankee was very good when I used to go there. Good Mexican/US style food. Pinnochios was always good for Italian.

Haven't eaten out in Harrogate for a while.

I went to school in Harrogate. I left 17 years ago... I suspect it's changed a bit since I was last there.....

You may be better posting this in the Yorkshire section, however my top tips are:

Food - Sasso in Princes Square is an excellent Italian, also Tannin Level, William & Victoria and Drum & Monkey (if you like seafood). Harrogate Brasserie is good too but not been for ages.

Drink - start at the top of West Park at the Coach & Horses for brilliant Tetleys, head down towards Goldiggers Arms (Hotel du Vin) for a quick drink then down to the Old Bell Tavern for some great local and foreign beers.

All are within short walking distance of each other, to be honest you can't go too far wrong with most of the bars & resturants.

You wanting top quality restaurants my favorite place to eat is the Oxford Street Brasserie

Never had a bad meal in there

Budget?

If minted, there's the drum & Monkey - great seafood.

Banyan (on John Street next to Pitcher & Piano) is OK

Hotel Du Vin - but not cheap IIRC.

Wagamamas if you fancy a national chain.

Cheltenham Crescent end of town is FULL of restaurants of all denominations. There is even a basque restaurant (i.e. the Spanish region - not naughty underwear basque!)

If you want good food at a fair to moderately expensive price in swish surroundings with a buzz a new place has just opened . Bar and Grill at the bottom of parliament street.
I guess with two work colleagues you don't want to be playing footsie so there's a Pizza Express near Parliament Square.
For Drinks my mates and I always start in weatherspoons next to the Turkish Baths. If you want proper ale then The Bell tavern at the bottom of the Montpellier Quarter. The Blues Bar is very popular as it always has live music. features Neil Morriseys and whatsisname Foxs' Morrisey-Fox Blonde Ale??

Revolution is usually good for a laugh and easy to reach from the rear exit of Weatherspoons.
Viper rooms (parliament St) or moko lounge (Kings Road) for late night jiggery pokery. Viper rooms a bit claustrophobic Moko teeny stylee.

Spent quite a few nights in there on stupidly alcoholic cocktails, everyone screaming their heads off to decent tunes. Then head a hearty hangover in the morning.

Good shout with Montey's though, they had a table football last time I was there.

You're not wrong! many a Thursday night spent hammered in there! there was another club like that, opposite Safeway but I can't remember it's name, it was like Jimmy's without the class, which doesn't really say much for it.

You're not wrong! many a Thursday night spent hammered in there! there was another club like that, opposite Safeway but I can't remember it's name, it was like Jimmy's without the class, which doesn't really say much for it.

Called Carringtons, then HG2 if I remember rightly. It was easier to get into Carringtons than Jimmy's when you were underage. It also had the added benefit of loads and loads and loads of fit young drunken fanny.
