Don't be silly. They're reductions from NSL. I expect the number of roads in the country where speed limits have been *raised* could be counted on the fingers of one rather truncated hand.
I know that, you know that but the last thing we want is the oxford scamera club saying that in a vote 99% of people said No to raising speed limits to 50 - when we all know what the real meaning of the vote was
This is a really serious matter and has been discussed in depth on the ABD e-mail list. There is an ABD action group attempting oppose it. Oxfordshire are proposing to reduce the NSL to 50 on most A roads, with a sub-plot to introduce a blanket 50 on all non-dual carriageway A roads (i.e. by default reduce NSL to 50 on single lane roads throughout the county). Of course they must not be allowed to achieve this (but sadly they probably will), all the same just get your vote in now to demonstrate the level of disagreement. Thanks Rich...

Oxfordshire county council are terrible with the roads. They have reduced a number of them from NSL to 30mph! In some cases these are country roads with no houses along the side!!!!!
Also they have the worst roads I have ever driven on in the UK. The amount of potholes on the roads going into Henley was disgusting.

I am totally against this blanket indescriminatory lowering of limits, however I have recently started using the A4074 from Reading to Oxford and I have to say they've got the limit right at the Southern end.
When you come out of Caversham the road is very twisty and narrow and does deserve the 50 limit it has.
However the 30 limit as you come out of Henly on the A4155 towards Caversham is a joke (with a Gatso hiding in the trees IIRC)
