CityBoy book, is it any good?

none of my friends know who/what this is even though the peson in question had a column for quite a long time in the paper.

So what did people think to the book that have read it, i hear some pretty good stories from the weird and wonderful world of the city folk and was wondering if this is worth the cash?

If you want to read something that is a complete pile of steaming nosh that bears absolutely no resemblence to what the City is actually like, then go ahead.

It's entertaining even if it not completely true, plenty of good books aren't 100% factually correct.

same old anecdotal stuff, written by an under achiever who clearly never really opened his eyes to the real deal. so much more could be written but he never seemed to get past the initial stages... possibly entertaining if you have no knowledge of the city.. but misguided

If you're looking for the real lowdown on how the City works or what caused the crash...then "No".

If you're looking for a light (and light-hearted) easy, amusing read for the Xmas hols....then "Yes".

he [aka G.A.] still has a column in City AM, except he's moved onto non-city topics [about which he might know more about] - might as well read that and save yourself a few squid.

Someone mentioned on here the other day a book that was written a few years ago predicting this "credit crunch" - but I cannot find the thread that mentioned it for the life of me.

If anyone can remember it, then let me know please. Closest I have found is the Black Swan - but don't think this is the book discussed.

Problem is that it purports to be an expose of what life here is like.

In fact, it's a tired hash of every cliche going. And not particularly entertaining. I gave up on it half way through.

I enjoyed it. Maybe it's not 100% correct but it is certainly interesting.

On the same vane, if even 50% of it is factual, it's still a shocking indictment of the City ethos.

I'm sure people wouldn't be getting their backs up if there wasn't some truth in it.

I bought the book to read on the beach in cuba this year and i thought it was quite entertaining/amusing to be honest. Buy it with that in mind rather than looking for guaranteed facts and you'll enjoy it. The tails of woe are particularly amusing - much like some of the fools that post up on here every now and then (Aeroflot)

It is getting their backs up because it is mostly untrue but tells people what they want to hear.
