I want to update my sound system, however when it comes down to it I'd honestly be happy with the standard HU if it was able to be connected up to an MP3 player or DAB receiver, which it isn't.

Unless anyone can think of a way?

If I was to change it all out would I be best of replacing all of the speakers and amps/subs with decent items and a nice touch screen HU with sat nav maybe, possibly DAB?

Rough costs of doing so? I spoke to my local auto sound fitter in Newcastle and they quoted £45pph labour!

That's almost as much as I charge for IT software test analysts consultancy ... to fit bloody speakers!

No tah, I'll do it myself.

It's a dilemma I've been having, I'd also like I pod connectivity but if you change the head unit you also seem to have to change the speakers which starts to be an expensive job.
I've got the factory bluetooth kit and wondered whether this would work:

Mr. B has a hardwired FM modulator in his car. It's wired inline to the aerial cable and has a headphone style cable to connect an Ipod or similar.

Might bang it on E. Gay then for £250... unless someone here wants first dibs.

The product listed here ...

Is about 5 seconds from my house! I will be contacting them this week, popping over this weekend and then getting one myself.

I will take pictures of fitting, give a full review and feedback to you guys.

I will keep you all posted.

I live just up the road so I may be able to pickup in person!

Thanks a bunch for the link

I hard-wired an ipod/mp3 input into the standard head unit using these instructions. Works fine.

Seems like the same item cheaper here:

I was going to wait to see how you got on but will probably give it a go at this price. Interested to know whether you have to change frequency on the fly and if so how? Or does it override any other transmissions by dint of being in line with the aerial anyway?
