So, the dealers have been told what their initial allocations will be and have been told by Ford that they should now take official deposits (as opposed to the 'unofficial' ones some people have been talked into) and specs. March '09 delivery apparently. Went in and sorted mine this morning. Interestingly my dealer said that not one dealer in the network has had a white car ordered yet. Most popular is green followed by blue.

Before you go ahead it may be worth keeping an eye out for Volvo's upcoming C30R....same Focus chassis and Volvo engine, but with all wheel drive....and the rumour is it will be priced very competatively and maybe not a lot more than the RS.

Regards, Don.

Thanks for the heads up. I had heard a rumour. Rightly or wrongly, however good the thing is, my heart is unlikely to say 'Volvo' however.

yes Just being based on the same chassis doesn't seem to count for as much as you'd think. Ford seem to be able to do wonders with their tweaking of a basic set-up with dampers and spring rates etc. Witness Ford Ka vs Fiat 500, Ford Focus vs Volvo V50/S40/C30. In all these cases, the Fords have a fard superior ride/handling compromise. My Focus's body control was much better than the Volvo I have now.

A certain Scotsman, no mean peddler a few years back in the BTCC, Volvo dealer, has been involved in this Volvo's development by all accounts and is mighty impressed......just maybe some surprises to come.

But I do agree about Ford's acclaimed chassis development skills and Volvo's previous pedestrian efforts.

Like it or not. Right or wrong. Lots of emotive things influence our car buying decisions and I just can't see ANY suffix that Volvo might come up with meaning the same to me as RS does. Obviously in the unlikely event that the RS is rubbish I won't buy it. Even then the Volvo won't appear on my radar since this is just a fun purchase for lots of 'Ring raids as opposed to representing a category of car that I NEED to buy in. I WANT an RS but I don't NEED a hot hatch (for want of a better description). I'll have some sleepless nights before I pick up the RS. Not so a Volvo. Sorry! smile

My dad ordered his white one on Sunday.

That dealer told him that (from that dealership) there had been no green ones ordered.

You need to remember the New FRS is a normal production car not a limited run also at this time it will be only available in 2wd but there will be at some point a 4wd limited run brought out to allow FMC to compete in the WRC under the new Regulations as they have to run what was a production car.

The Volvo will be a cracking car as it will have the AWD system that will be available on the Focus and this will be used for development also the Volvo will be running ST power std not FRS power and as such will not perform to the same level as the RS.

However there is no reason why Volvo wont bring out a higher spec item to challenge in a touring car series somewhere while FMC concentrate on the WRC.

The new RS is a Limited Production. There are 8000 units being made, and 4000 being brought to the UK.

I also can't see them bringin out a 4WD Version later, if they're not bringing one out now. Surely they realise that if they had just brought out a 4WD one now, that would have saved them a lot of money, and would have possibly made it sell better in the first place.

There won't be a 4WD FRS - that I can say with 100% confidence!

Also, 4WD will still be an item manufacturers will be able to add to their WRC cars and not have to produce a production version with it included.

from what I have read in numerous interviews with Joest is it will be a production run car with an initial build of 8000 after this number is reached a decision will be made as to continue to produce them pending a new facelift or replacement model

If you say so my man aint got a problem with that but keeps the conversation going on here and the thing is I think it is great the RS is back, however if all they will ever offer in RS guise is the Focus then the days of regular RS's in various models is dead and as such so is the RS Brand and that is not a good thing.

I would love to see a couple of other models getting the RS treatment I remember FMC were to do an RS Fiesta the concept car was built and looked superb and they didnt bother building it which is a shame as it would of been a cracking car they even looked into an RS Ka now there is what could be a real fun car.

I hope they look at other models as the cars all drive well but some need that RS touch

Both Volvo and Ford will have to get on it to get all their respective Focus RS's and C30R's built before production of that 5 pot Volvo built engine is stopped as it is not being modified to meet the upcoming new, tougher emmissions regulations.

Volvo's 2010 new S60 will have the Bridgend built new Volvo T6 engine as its range topper, maybe that engine will also go into the new Mondeo shortly as they share the same platform....however it is practically the same length as the existing 5 pot so could go into the Focus and C30's......320bhp in its existing turbocharged form, 280bhp NA in new Volvo S80 and V70, was intended also for future Jaguars and Range Rovers, also designed from the outset for instalation 'for and aft' so could we see a Volvo reversion to RWD in a new S60 variant to match the premium Huns?

Regards, Don.

No official pics of it in white, but i did this photoshop a while ago.

There was a blue one spotted out and about somewhere a few months ago.

My dad had ordered his in white. I think he's gone for all the options except satnav.
