Councils putting recyclable material in Landfill?

Heard a radio news item this morning whihc was no doubt designed to boil one's still slightly sleepy wee wee, mentioning that some Councils are now putting recyclable waste in landfill because the price they sell it for to recycling companies has fallen along with commodity values and the general recession........WTF? It just goes to show that the "Green Policies" of our local councils are nothing more than a business opportunity and revenue stream!
I wonder why we, the consumer, and first "owner" of the waste dont have the option of deciding whether to a landfill it, or b recyle it and if b, why we dont get some of the cash the Council makes by selling it, (when prices are good).
What's the betting that the roll out of twin bin schemes and recylcing policies is now on hold until the market price of scrap etc increases?
Poxy Councils, lost millions and millions speculating in Icelandic Banks and fleecing us all to the bone all the time......as soon as the revenue is down, it's "lets throw it in the hedge" metality time, just like a bunch of fecking pikeys that dont get £30 for an old washer for scrap anymore, so lob it on the verge.

Ours, Wychavon, freely admit to doing so. Made me laugh very loudly when it appeared as they changed us from "Black and pink bags" one week and "Black and white bags" the next to FOUR different wheelie bins, which they then failed to collect at all for a month.
What's more, despite having one of the largest landfills in the country in the middle of our area, it gets trucked to..... Norfolk. Very eco-friendly I must say.

I make no pretence to be "Green" myself, but do use the recylce bins and am very careful to ake sure what should go in does go in! It just gets on my wick that I spend time seperating it all out, because they told me I had to when the price was right, all for nothing.
The item said they are being encouraged to build more incinerators, and I have read before that it is one of the best ways to get rid of rubbish, (and can generate electic too). So my plan is to adopt a policy of "if it burns, it burns" on my open fire and start buring all my papers, cardboard, tetra packs etc. Hey, I dont live in a smokless zone, so maybe all the plastic can go on too!! I changed the oil on the car last weekend, just what I need to get that unseasonsed conifer wood that had fallen in a storm and I picked up last week too!

much of this so called Recycled stuff goes into land fill.
China no longer wants/needs plastics or cardboard because the Americans are not buying it, so the price drops out of the market It costs more to recycle than fill in a big hole, so that's where it goes.
Not sure where in Norfolk all your stuff goes, but I'm sure much of Norfolks rubbish / recycling materials go elsewhere.

But we pay for two bins schemes, and are forced to seperate our crap, have smelly bins in the summer as they only get picked up every two weeks and I never noticed the council tax coming down 3 years back when our recycling scheme was imposed upon us!tekta said:

Global warming might be. But not being able to just bury our rubbish and pray it go's away is not. The best thing is to burn it and produce elec and hot water to heat local gov offices. Keeps the global warming freaks happy and means cheap elec and paying less for the council to heat their offices.But noooo. Some muppets dont like chimneys and would prefer to live on a rubbish dump.

Thats' exactly my point, when it usits them they inconvenience us all on the basis of it being "green" and good fr the environment, when clearly it was all business and money driven (whihc we all know) all along! But here is the proof! Same with car tax, fuel duty, congestion charge etc etc etc...it has fapp all about the environment, it is all about cash!
