Being devils advocate for a second, do we really need to make booze cheaper? Do we really want it becoming cheaper so bigger volumes can be purchased?

Also, given that booze is actually pretty cheap here anyway, is this really a big problem?

Calais trip now booked! Was considering not going this Xmas as booze offers are all over the place, but feck'em I'd rather give my duty money to the French than see our Govt give it to some wker on benefits.

and of course this 8% increase will be + 15% vat as duty has vat on it, thereby it is really a 9.2% rise.

Perhaps it would be better if they just came out and said they think every single pub should close down
