Having just bought my 2000 XKR I need to know whether the tensioners need changing. The previous owner was told by the dealer he bought it from that they were the 'newer' type, but we don't know if this means Mk2 (most likely) or Mk3 (metal bodied). Is there a way to check without dismantling half the engine...? The car has a stamped service book but no detailed bills for me to check... and Jag main dealers won't give me any info claiming data protection mad

Is it only Jag main dealers that sell the new parts I need - timing chains, tensioners etc...? Any advice where to buy new would be appreciated. Thanks.

A Jaguar specialist should be able to do the job for circa £1500 (possibly a bit less). I don't know what they'd charge just to check what you have, but perhaps you could arrange for them to check on the proviso that if they are the Phase 2 items that they are replaced there and then.

If there are no receipts for them being replaced then you would have to assume they are still the phase 2 items it would have left the factory with.

I would take it they are the Mk2's
I have spoken to my Independant Jaguar Specialist

He would charge £1,000 for an XKR
