Panda 100HP real world ecomony
Discussion
all,I'm on the verge of chopping on my 1.3 Multijet 500 for a Panda 100HP, but I just wanted to ask something to any 100HP owners out there.
Being the numpty/skeptic that I am, I can't quite calculate/trust the economy figures that manufacturers quote and so can anyone tell me the range that you're getting out of a tank of fuel please?
Reason being is that I have a daily 130 mile round trip and I'm hoping that the range at motorway speeds (70-80mph) is over 260 miles. Otherwise I'm going to have to fill up every day as opposed to once every other day and I can see that getting anoying very quickly.
Thanks in advance
Tuan
If you're only getting 40-45 mpg why not get something a bit bigger and more comfortable? You're going to spend an awful lot of time in there from the sound of it. My scrappy old Mondeo will get up to 45 mpg on average over a tank, cruises happily all day at motorway speeds and has a range of about 600 miles per tank. For £1000 you won't get anything pretty or fast but comfortable reliable and economical is definitely possible.

The honest answer is because I'm a bit stupid with impulsive buys like this.We have a problem with parking at my work and so whatever I get needs to have a small wheelbase. I was doing the commute in an old Pug 106 for a while, then the 500, so a bumpty non-comfy ride on the motorway isn't going to bother me. Plus I'm getting a half decent deal on the 500 was a PX and so whatever I get needs to have a Fiat badge on it.
The sensible alternative option is a Grande Punto 1.9 Multijet Sport, but the dealer doesn't have a used one at the mo. Plus I make daft impulsive buys.

Try and get a test drive that allows you a motorway drive. The 100hp isn't exactly the most comfortable m/way drive, especially on the rubbish English roads.

Indeed it's awful. B roads blasts are no problem IMO, but motorway journeys are not pleasant.36 MPG here but it's got less than 1000 miles on it...
I now have 12000 totally trouble free miles and have averaged 37.5 mpg. This would be bettered I guess as I have had mine converted to LPG which always knocks the consumption a bit, but it works a treat - gives a really good range and costs nunpence to drive. I do intend to keep it for 150K mind you, but even so the payback is not too bad - cost £1600 to have done. Do the sums.
My wife's has got 1,500 miles on it now and is on 37+mpg, but that doesn't include many long runs.
I think it's a great little car, good unpretentious fun. Ride's hard, but not unbearably so considering what it is (note we don't have speed bumps around here!).
For us with 2 small kids to cart about, the choice of fun cars with 5 doors which are narrow enough to open wide in a carpark was pretty small. We're happy with our choice, although the sensible option would have been a used Honda Jazz - my wife reckons she's not old enough for one of them yet

I bought an MJ in Nov 2007. After 9 months I wanted to drive it off a cliff. Diesel is awfully laggy, handling is roly poly.
So I test drove a 100hp and quite liked it. Totally different to drive than the MJ which can only be a good thing.
Fuel economy wise I average about 35mpg. That means about 220ish miles to a tank depending on how far you like to drive with the light on (I normally ignore the low fuel warnings till it's on the last segment).
Downsides to 100hp ownership? Ride is firm and too firm at the rear. Makes speed humps a PITA. Handling wise it's not too bad but is not perfect by any means. This is not a car that you are going to get easy lift off oversteer with, mainly because it tends to lift an inside front wheel when cornering, so trail braking in the dry won't help here as it confuses the ABS with one wheel dangling in the air. It's better in the wet though.
Overall it's great value for money and does have a good spec. Certainly a big improvement over the dire multijet. BTW I know some people like the MJ, but I couldn't bear it, horrible thing.

My 100hp is just over a year old and I've done 16,000 miles in it. I get 230 miles driving from full to when the reserve tank light comes on; that's when I tend to fill it up, and it's most commonly 28-29 litres that I put in.
So if I'm right that the total tank size is 30 (main) + 5 (reserve) litres, you would get about 275 if you ran it dry.
Close call for you then! Mostly motorway would get you slightly more economy than I get, which is reported by the trip computer as 37.5mpg.
Hope this helps!

Sorry to highjack the thread a little, but can I ask how much oil your 100HP's are using?
Mine seems to be using more than I'd expect (haven't worked out a figure, just seems to need quite a bit of topping up!), just wondering if anyone else had found this?
Oh and just to add to the OP, I do a 55 mile dual carriageway run every day in mine and see between 38-42mpg.

Oil consumption is high - the last few cars I have had I haven't even bothered to check the oil between services (naughty me) and on my car on a roundabout the message flashed up low oil pressure. I topped up with 2 litres of oil and it was then only just up to the mark. I will keep an eye on it now and hope that it calms down a bit.
