Today it came to light I made a cock up on some building plans - not the end of the world, its happened before, it will happen again.

Apart from this and suggesting my company hire a female 'friend of friend', who promptly got pissed and crashed someone else's company car (not my best character judgment) thats about as big as my mistakes can get.... pretty boring.

Theres some very varied and interesting vocations amongst the PH massive - so whos going to 'fess up to dropping the biggest ball?

At my last company I was doing some testing and created and authorised a payment for a collection of invoices worth circa £8million.

I was on the live system, not the test one... oops

Whilst still at school I had a job in the argos. They decided to extend the stockroom upstairs and put a conveyor belt to allow goods to pass to the collection desk at the bottom. I "accidentally" rolled a vacume packed duvet down it and it flew off the end, passed through the stock shelves at the front of the shop and hit the assistant manager in the back. All this happened infront of about 20 cutomers. Strangley my temporary contract wasn't renewed.

Spinning a Mercedes C250 diesel as I was approaching the dealership, after popping to the fuel station to top it up.

My sales manager and the two punters waiting to drive the car were watching from the forecourt.

Test drive cancelled, customers lost, angry sales manager, big bill from the service department as I hit a large kerb with the NSR very hard.

Reversed the car transporter (same dealership) into the buidling and knocked part of the parts department down.......

Deleted an entire class B network's reverse DNS. Good thing it was under version control and I'd just committed smile

In fact it was getting fired from a popular holiday chain for watching porno in one of the rooms, and then leaving it on for a manager to see it the next day.

Well the mistake was admitting it rofl My dad thinks to this day it was for stealing towels..

My first month in a new job I lost the company £140,000 when I guessed wrong about price movements (we used to buy a lot of raw materials on 6 month rolling contracts). I was fresh from uni, thought I knew everything etc.

I got called in to see the Managing Director (and owner). Expecting to be shown the door. Had even started packing up my stuff. The MD (one of the most relaxed guys and yet at the same time very switched on) said - "We'll have to hold on to you for a long time, you're our most expensively trained member of staff. Try not to do it again."

Stayed with the firm for 12 years. Didn't make the same mistake again.

Cut off every live call both in and outbound to 9 call centres across the UK.

That'll teach me to test in a live environment and to read method documentation properly.

I have heard lots of tales from other people, but the worst I have ever done is to miss-price a quote to the tune of 100% of the total amount. Trying to recoup the loss on that one was a nightmare!

Never made the mistake again - though I did see someone else make the same mistake!

Most recently, I had to go to Copenhagen for the week to help a customer. All booked for Monday and off I trot to the airport for the 6AM flight (hence getting up at 3AM!). Get there and find out the flight I booked was for 6PM....

Doh!

Necessitated lots of calling to customer.

hehe

That reminds me of a potato fight that took place in the storeroom of big supermarket where I worked as a student...

....it was all fun and games until a Jersey Royal exited through the automatic doors and clipped a pensioner on the ear! boxedin

Mistakenly use my own bank Details instead of companies & ended up receiving funds into my own account. (only noticed by me when doing companies bank rec and spotted missing pay in). Boss was on Holiday so had to go "upstairs" to Regional controller to flag my error. He didn't believe it possible & was annoyed with the bank thankfully. (I bought the cakes one afternoon with the interest)
