I need to replace the radiator on my 1996 MR2 GT Non-Turbo (UK Version) and was wondering if anybody could confirm some details for me.

Firstly, are the radiators for UK versions and Japanese imports different sizes?

Secondly, does it make any difference to the radiator whether the car has air-con or not?

Also, any recommendations as to where would be best to buy the radiator from would be gratefully received.

Many Thanks

Matt

i have a Mr2 MkII rad for sale, from a jap import turbo - if an expert can confirm that it fits the UK model, i would happily sell it cheap.

UK and Jap N/A models are mechanically identical so they should share the same rad. Not sure about the air-con bit though. You could give Fensport a try, they stock new and used parts. Dont tell them you have an MR2 GT though, as technically thats the high spec turbo model, Just tell them its a 1996 UK car.

The GT was a turbo model. If its a UK N/A it should be a GTi-16, or if its JDM it will be G-Limited.

Try ebay type in MR2 Uk radiator and they are available for less than £100

I think they are identical, certainly had no problems fitting a UK rad to a Turbo model. Though the aircon condensor had disintegrated after trying to remove it. smile

Many thanks for assistance, apologies it is a GTi-16 N/A UK model.

I'm still no closer to working out which radiator I need, it seems that depending on who you speak to you get a different answer. One guy at a parts suppliers said that the turbo and the N/A radiators were a different thickness confused

The most common thing people have said is that the UK model is slightly wider (672mm across the core) and the Japanese one is about 572mm across the core, although many places have said that all models (UK N/A, Japanese N/A and Turbo) all use the same!

So I've decided to wait a couple of weeks until I'm home (I'm currently at Uni) and have taken the old one out and measured it!

Having said that, any further advice is very welcome.

Thanks Again

Matt

P.S. Many thanks Wadeski, I'll be in touch when I know more and if I decide to go for a used one. Cheers.

Register with imoc.co.uk and ask on there. MR2 specialists such as Rogue and 3S Services frequently browse the forums and they'll certainly be able to give you a concrete answer.
Unfortuntely most so-called Japanese car specialists and part suppliers don't have a clue when it comes to the SW20 MR2 and they often try to blag it, as my bro has recently found out trying to get hold of an alternator for his G-Limited.
