Dancing On Ice......Ultima Stylie!!

You know it's time to pack the Ult away for the winter when:
1) You travel 150 miles to a track and you feel like an ice cube when you get there.
2) The sighting laps are extended to melt the ICE
3) You fall off on the second corner of your first lap at you first time at Donnington....
4) The gritter lorries are out on your way home!!
Well that was a baptism of fire (or ice actually).
Just about had a good day although a dodgy start and zero confidence after an off on the first lap (with virtually no throttle) had me creeping around all morning with my right hand indicator on perminantly!!
Added to the fact I forgot to get insurance meant that I was not in the best frame of mind to take on Donnington in the ice.
I was the slowest car (driver) there by a mile - those f&*king first few bends down to the old hairpin - they are having a larf aren't they!!???
Finally it thawed/dried and had a few laps at the end at somewhere near good pace, but the damage was done. Not my favorite track....perhaps a warmer time.

Wayne looked like he was improving bundles and we had a good instructor (Mike) who I would recommend - but I just wasn't listening in the morning - just looking at looming walls at every corner!!
I think I'll put her to bed for the year now.

. Insurance, what insurance, never had that before! Still at least you did more laps than I did the time you saw me and Dony.Not a good time of year to do Donington Pete. Go back on a warmer day and it's awesome. Craner Curves at 115+ is an experience not to be forgotten, it's a track very suited to Ultimas.

Donnington is one of my favourite circuits.
The Craner curves are one the best parts of the circuit - a real test of nerve.
When I used to race Radicals, some of the better drivers could go through them at full throttle!!! - i never managed to do this. Once I came off at the first curve and did around 4 circles before the gravel trap gathered me up.
I have been there with my Sport a couple of times, once in the dry and once wet. There was a good amount of grip but the car tended to understeer in the faster corners (which I found strange as i have no understeer problems at Oulton Park) - perhaps is just a faster circuit.
Was it a unrestricted noise day as mostly it is 96 dec and my car is 104?
Let me know if you go again and I will join you (only live 1 hour away).

Maybe the icy slide at the start - there was about 1/2" thick strips of ice at the bottom of Craner - out in Wayne's M3 twitching through Craner, and the bent E46 took away a bit of confidence!!!
The last two sessions were good drives. The car's well set up and tyres were working quite well. Looked like a more progressive drive than the one around Snet.
