The key fob on the Boxster won't unlock the car (the spare hasn't worked since we bought the car).

It worked a couple of days ago, the battery is fine and the LED on the key fob lights. When my Vectra did the same all it needed was unlocking the car with the key, turning the ignition on and clicking the buttons on all of the key fobs. Is the Boxster the same? I don't want to be setting the alarm off at this time of night.

Yup, remote disarms after five days. Unlock and then relock without opening the door then use the remote to open it.

Did you fix it Drew?
If not, mine went on my 996 - Its a quite common problem and needs a new key fob, which aint cheap. Think mine was about £140 including recoding.

Thanks HRG,

Tried opening the car with the key this morning, alarm went off, turned ignition on, alarm went off, started engine OK, stopped engine, got out, tested key fob and all is well.

Hoppy, main key fob now works, but the spare key fob still doesn't. Its key and transponder do, so at £140 I'll not bother.

I don't know how these re-coding prices are justified. It was the same with my Proton Jumbuck, £125 for key, fob, transponder and alarm recoding. For the Blackbird I was quoted just £65 for key, transponder and re-coding (no key fob). Yet I fit a transponder immobiliser, separate alarm and had two keys cut for the Chimaera, all for less than £50. New key, transponder and key fob would be about £15 if I needed another.

Your alarm went off because you unlocked it with the key and then OPENED THE DOOR. Like HRG said, just unlock and lock the door with the key (without opening door) and then use your key fob.

I had a similar problem to your spare fob a few months ago. The battery was ok and the LED light flashed but the door wouldn't unlock. I found that it was the way the battery was sitting in its terminal holder. It was not sitting tight enough against the contactor.

With the battery cover off, use your thumb to lightly press the battery into its termnal holder and try to unlock the door.

If it now works then its easy to fix, mine works fine now!!!!

I've found that if you rotate the key anti-clockwise only, remove it, open the door and then put the key in the ignition and turn the ignition, you're fine to go.

Hi
I have read with interest all your comments regarding the Boxster S alarm problems.I must admit my 37k pls 2002 Boxster S has all these problems and more! I tried the locking and unlocking without opening the door, my key fob flashed but could not operate the door or boot or bonnet?? I then get a message that the Oil pressure is too low even though the car runs perfectly! I took it to a local garage he changed the sensor....no difference the message is still there. I have just been outside now and as the key does not operate the Central locking I tried to start the car, the alarm went mad for a few minutes then for some unknown reason let me start it up, it ran on tick over for about a minute then died on me,I cannot start it maybe the battery is flat after the car has been stuck in the drive for weeks, the battery is a new Mercedes heavy duty affair and all these problems started after I installed it.

I am about to spend £150 on a scanner to turn off the warning lights as it also states I have a faulty airbag today.I believe on this model the ECU is under the seat and can suffer from water damage but do not understand if this will affect the alarm and central locking as well.
I rang a Porsche specialist who incidentally charged me £450 for an oil change on my 997 and he stated that replacing the battery could have burnt out some control panel within the dash and asked me to bring in the car which as you can imagine I am reluctant to do after paying so much for an oil change on my GTS.

I bet no-one else has had this sort of problem looks like it may have to go to the main stealers to sort it out properly.

If the cars not been started for weeks chances are the battery is flat. Put it on charge for 24 hours and then see if things resolve themselves.
