Hard Working Families

This phrase has appeared in the last few years, I suspect put into the lexicon by a NuLabia spin doctor. But it's now being used by the other parties too. WTF is it all about?
What on earth is a hard working family? Or do they just mean average family but feel this might hurt their feelings?

I think it's supposed to differentiate from the families with 7 kids a la the Matthews's of Dewsbury who have never worked a day in their lives but who are the recipients of state largesse at our expense.

My A#1 gripe. Have never encountered such a thing, personally.

In my experience, those with children leave work at 5 on the dot, secure in the knowledge that they have have a cast-iron excuse to do so, leaving their colleagues to take up the slack.

A hard working family, as opposed to a new generation scumbag family, where she works part time in the Coop, is claiming £200 a week 'social', and he lives at her house, whilst claiming dole, rent and Job seekers, but says he lives in his mates flat.

Their kids costs hundreds every year on just those things.

They drive ordinary family vehicles - not new, a few years old - because they need to move the 2.4 kids around and, until recently, would have been charged the princely sum of £450 a year for the privelige.

In some areas, despite paying £2K in "Council Tax", they have to pay extra to have their rubbish taken away. If they put the wrong rubbish in the wrong bin (little Jonny is only five so he does get it wrong sometimes) they are fined and given a criminal record despite their best intentions. If they want their garden waste taken away in summer this also costs extra.

I think it's these people the politicians are talking about. You know - the ones whose job it is to pay. For everything.

Next up is that stupid legislation whereby people who have got kids are allowed flexitime. Guess what that's going to mean: people without kids will have to cover all the stty hours.

Next place I go to I'm going to lie and say I've got kids to take advantage of this. I'm going to invent ficticious and fabulous exam results and have him with an IQ of 192 just to annoy other parents (there's not much worse than someone blowing off how clever their kid is).
