Woolworths - Alan Sugars big mistake

Well it was in the news a little while ago - a month or so - that Sir A Sugar bought 5% of Woolworths shares.... now all that £ down the drain. Does anyone know the price on the day he bought and the potential loss he made?
In addition to this Citi Group one investor put in $300m but the next day shares dropped 60%... you have to feel for the poor chap.

What do they sell now? Anybody know?
My guess is:
Toys, at a higher price than Argos/Tesco/Asda.
CDs/DVDs, also at a high price.
ummm. ummm. Anything else?
They should have got themselves embedded inside the Supermarkets and been the Clothes/Toys and stuff part. They didn't. So they are on a road to failure.

That's the wonder of Woolworths!
IMO the shops became an irrelevance in current era; neither cheap as the tin sheds like Matalan, nor upmarket enough to attract the folk with money, they fell between two stools.
Their shop assistants were legendary, we used to believe they had a special farm where they bred people of especially low acumen. Years ago, when pissed up one Xmas in Birmingham, my brother went into the big branch in Broad St Birmingham to steal some christmas cards. Whilst in there he took it upon himself to explain to an assistant that he'd put deadly anthrax virus in the pick 'n'mix. The assistant looked at him with those dull unthinking eyes and a gawping bottom lip. "Owh", she said in her best Stirchley accent, "it's not moy aisle".
Bye bye Woolies!

Someone 'planted' a calligraphy set in my school shirt one lunchtime.
Rozzers were called, I got a caution, my Parents were called, I got the mother of all rollockings from Dad for upsetting Mum.
Never stole another thing again.
You'll all be glad to hear though, that I have blatantly flouted my ban many times in the 17 years since my ban.
And every time I snigger to myself. Then get a bit nervous when one of the plastic policemen looks at me as if to say "were onto you son"

I think he has some shares but didn't end up buying the ones reported because some of his assets were frozen by an Icelandic bank.
Lucky chap then.I wonder how many of these Multi millionaire folk have really lost shed loads due to shares & bank failure.. With only £50k guarenteed in the UK thats hardly any comfort.
I guess for these hyper rich currently possibly the best thing to do is buy material items, maybe buy a few mansions/platinum bars? Or they could potentially start themselves up as a bank and their own bank could provide the current account 7 lending for their companies?

As a going concern Woolies is worth bugger all. As a group to be broken up and assets sold, its worth a fair fortune - especially the prime high street locations, properties and rental assets.
Sir Alan has a good mind for money and investments, but he is certianly not perfect. However, for dibs on the potential high street locations, he could potentially pick up some utter bargains! Remember retail is uncertain and depressed, so get a bargain today and watch its value rise in the years to come.
Astute - time will tell, but investment is a balance of risk. This is clearly a higher risk, but equally he can afford to lose it, so its not a problem. Payback is higher though.

Well if you do get collared and they say you banned say to them that they'd better rememeber your face this time as you've been banned before.Rozzers were called, I got a caution, my Parents were called, I got the mother of all rollockings from Dad for upsetting Mum.

I don't shop there but I suspect they sell 'haberdashery'.
What is 'haberdashery'?
Thats the description of the action a person undertakes when they have just done a poo in some public toilets and then realise there is no paper in their cubical. They then "haberdash" to the next cubical hopeing noone else is in the toilets. What is 'haberdashery'?
It's made from the words "ha, b
ks" often uttered in these situations. And the dash is self explanitary.Edited by Munter on Wednesday 26th November 10:42
