MFI about to go under?

I know it's not a great topic, but worthy of note that MFI is at risk of going into adminstration unless it gets some cash quickly.

I've never been a buyer of their products, largely due to the fact they quote delivery in months for what I've always seen as overpriced tat. Still, it's never nice to see another big name go to the wall

What will pensioners do on Boxing Day if there's no MFI sale?

Never been in MFI, but it doesnt surprise me they are about to go under, i'd expect magnet ect to follow.

Wasn't they the subject of some sort of management buy out not too long ago?

My stuff from them was fine.

However several door panels arrived with scratches (that happened before they were packed) so they had to get some more door panels and deliver them a month later.

It didn't hold up the work, but if they'd bothered to check the panels properly before packing, they'd have saved themselves some expense and trouble.

MBO doesn't seem to have got backing.
Only people to lose out have been poor buggers working in the stores and a pile of landlords. Goldman Sachs have done well though.

There was an MBO about 3 months ago, but I guess the rents are due again, which could trip them up.

Same story with Woolworths ( although i believe that 80-90% of their profits are made in December ). Maybr Alan sugar wasn't so daft after all.

I'm not surprised at all.

Ordered some furniture a few months back which took about 3 weeks to be delivered. But unlike most sellers I use they billed my credit card on the day of the ORDER not on the date of DELIVERY. We'll leave aside the fact the delivery was incomplete...

So if their business needed cash that far up front a few months ago it's no surprise whatsoever they've hit the fan at the first hint of a downturn. The moment the rate of customers walking through the door slowed they were dead.

As for Woolworths, they've been a basket case for a decade or more. Sad to see them go but probably long overdue with Tesco, Robert Dyas and everybody else right in their face.

A bit of a downturn soon sorts the men from the boys.

The quality is no worse than Ikea. Just not as well marketed.

They will only do that the once! Years ago, and I'm talking around 20, MFI used to sell real crappy, poorly made kitchens. They sorted themselves out and were probably one of the better flat pack producers in my opinion.

My experiences of Ikea are far more frustrating than my dealings with MFI, by a long shot.

Bought three kitchens over the years at a time when you could buy them over the counter. wouldn't consider them now that you have to wait for delivery, thought quality was OK though.
