Going through the paperwork of my new 190E I find invoices for "Banjo Unions" I Googled it and found out what it is, but why has it been replaced a couple of times?

Where abouts are they on the car and why would they fail?

Usually fuel or brakes, although power steering can use them as can oil systems (particularly on Porsches).

Basically it is a pretty simple way to join a pipe to a block of some sort be it a brake caliper/steering rack/pump/oil distributor etc. Also has the benefit of allowing the pipe to be positioned at any rotation meaning parts can be used on multiple cars.

Don't worry yourself about it basically.

Are you sure the car still has standard brakes?
It may be that someone has fitted larger/better brakes in which case a Banjo fitting may have been an effective way to mate old and new.

It would perhaps have provided an effective transition between imperial and metric.
