I know its probably been done to death on here, but why oh why can't these 
s show fking lights? 
I nearly took one out on the way to work this morning. Busy, unlit NSL single carriageway. Lots of oncoming traffic hence glare of lights. And Mr/Ms Darwin wobbling along. No lights, no reflectors, no hi-viz. fk all.
Saw him/her in time, fortunately
And five minutes later came across another.
Do these bds have a death wish, FFS?

down the wrong side of an unlit dual carrigeway
One of these days i am going to catch one of these muppets head on between the headlamps, and the bonnet will make a perfect launch pad for the first SE Asian in space!!!

I am a cyclist, walker, driver, biker and runner depending on where and when.
Whatever of these activities I am doing at the time I try to show courtesy to the people doing any of the others. That means as a cyclist I always have my lights on - better for me and for everyone else. When I'm driving I expect other cyclists to do the same.
If everyone showed consideration we'd all be better off!

For a while they were doing a sensible sounding campaign in Cambridge. The bobbies would stop an unlit cyclist and give fixed penalty notice (or whatever the cycling equivalent is) which when handed in at the police station was traded for a voucher for a set of bike lights.
It'll maybe encourage a few more to be seen, at least until the first set of batteries run out.

Bang on mate. There is far too little courtesey these days but even not having lights shows a shocking lack of a self preservation instinct.Whatever of these activities I am doing at the time I try to show courtesy to the people doing any of the others. This is a real bug-bear of mine, whether that's cyclists or drivers without their lights on.
And how many times do you see cyclist who will have a rear light on, but no front light?? It's like they think they just need to be seen by vehicles behind them as they will get overtaken, they don't seem to realise that a car might want to turn left/right and not see them coming either on the inside or towards them. Or you get the other sort, on a super-duper bike, decked out in lycra and helmet, and again, no lights.

The majority of cyclists, like the majority of drivers, are mediocre but basically safe enough and that includes having lights when needed. There are of course the minority that get noticed by being generally crap, and these spoil it for everyone hence the endless threads about cyclists running red lights, knocking prams over on zebra crossings and, yes, not using lights.Whinge about the real culprits by all means, but don't extrapolate it to everybody please
There's a very simple solution for this, public flogging. If it's children, then that could be reduced to a few strokes of the cane.
People who block main roads with their nasty 20 year-old horseboxes refusing to pull in to let the queue of 30 or so cars past should also receive flogging.

this is what I do when I overtake them on my bike. Darwin will win in the end. tless! Whilst not trying to tar all cyclists with the same brush, I think the t**ts spoil it for those who DO have lights, helmets, hi viz, etc.
I've said it before, but the bike appears to be the only 'vehicle'you can take on the road with no test of competence for rider or bike, no laws regarding helmets, no insurance, etc. Far too many think that the RTA only applies to motorists, and FFS, don't get me started about cyclists who ride on the pavement, thinking they own the friggin' thing!!!

It always amazes me when I see cyclists in dark clothes and no lights. When I'm on my bike I want to be as visible as possible, and even then it's amazing how many motorists don't see you.
Although a colleague was moaning about cyclists lights being too bright earlier in the week so I guess you can't win!
Oh, and it's not only cyclists that don't have lights. I nearly wiped out some old boy in one of those electric wheelchair cart things who was on the road with no lights at 9pm at the weekend.

I've recently seen a worrying number of drivers with no lights on at times of day when you can barely see the road in front of you without, as well. I think it's just this time of year - people think "It's only 4pm, I can't need lights".
I agree with this.The other morning it was fairly misty and drizzly so visibility was dreadful, yet people were still giving with no lights on at all.
Maybe it should be law to have your headlights on between Nov - March?

Agree,but why dont motorists check THEIR lights, on a daily commute, I see numerous cars with defective lights, ie one rear side light not working, one headlight not working, one stuck on full beam. But yes, unlit cyclists are really kama karzi in discuise, plonkers, but come on you motoriests, toe the line as well. (Assuming your one of the bunch with dodgy lights)s show fking lights?
