Hi

Wondering if anyone could help me. I've got a Canon 400D and have a budget of £300 to buy a lens. I've been having a look around and have come across the Canon 55-250mm EF-S f4-5.6 IS(Image Stabilizer) Lens and the Canon EF 100-300mm F4.5-5.6 USM Lens. Would you say these are ok starting points for taking motorsport photography?

Any help would be great.

Cheers.

I wouldn't discount the Sigma APO DG 70-300mm. A lot of reports place it higher than the equivalent Canon. However with £300 you're not far off the Image Stablised Canon 70-300.

Or bang on given A J Purdy's current deal! smile
In fine weather the 70-300 IS is great, it only really struggles in low light conditions, which for me isn't really a problem smile

The Canon 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 IS is just within budget from A J Purdy with the discount mentioned in another topic.

Thanks for the replies.

Does anyone have a link to the AJ Purdy deal as I went on the website but only found a canon lens for £399.

This is the right one - when you add it to your basket and checkout you should see 25% discount applied bringing it down to £300.

Cheers. With the discount I'll be purchasing it. No more spending my life cropping after a few days at LeMans.

A 2nd hand 70-200mm F4 L would be what I would get.

Although kerso is just about as cheap (and IME of looking at them on eBay) or cheaper than most 2nd hand ones...

I'd agree, I've not had that one but L lenses tend to focus faster, a mate had that 100-300 IS on a 20d and it did seem to struggle for motorsports.
