Is it just me or is Robert Peston making a name for himself out of the current economic climate? All the BBC news is full of his doom mongering, where did he come from, and why does he look so smug about it?

He has "lucked" into the job. Up until earlier this year, BBC's main economics reporter was Evan Davies. Davies has been "promoted" and is now one of the main hosts of Radio 4's flagship Morning news programme. "Today". Peston took over from Davies just before the crunch hit.

Dunno, but he seems to have very very good information, the man seems to "know" stuff. I think it s the treasury and the Bank who would like to know exactly which governemtn minister is feeding him, No 10 and no 11 Downing Street have both had the finger pointed at them.

Some blame hime for the Northern Rock fiasco, had he not broken the story the way he did, they might have been able to obtain some long term funding

Since Davies has been on Today I've become more and more irritated by it - I've even started to listen to Chris Moyles because I get so annoyed by Davies' school boy economics and ranting on about doom and gloom...

I've been regularly reading his blog on the BBC site, I think he's quite good. I can't really comment on his demeaner on tele as I usually watch C4 news.

Apparently, he has had speech lessons to improve his delivery when he is on the news.

What a great lesson for that speech therapist. He still sounds like someone is poking him in the arse at random when he speaks.
