Hi all.
I had two Idle Mixture Screw on the carb that were seized. I removed the two screws using the extractor today and I found a lot of gunks and dusts on the thread and I was assuming that is the cause of locking up screws.
So I tried to clean up the barrel with carb cleaner, compressed air, and Q-tips. However, no matter how hard I clean it, I still can't get the new screws to go in without forcing it.
What should I do?
Thanks in advance.
Isaac

If you have the carb off the car you could try soaking a cotton cloth with acetone and placing it in the idle screw openings. Let it sit for at least an hour. If the gunk is carbon based then the acetone should at least soften it. Follow with carb cleaner. I would try to limit the area of contact for the acetone as it will disolve just about all organic compounds and may weaken plastic parts contacted by it.

Oh yeah, try not to breath the fumes, keep all open flames away from the acetone and carb cleaner and wear safety glasses.

If this doesn't work you might try a thread chaser; however, I've never used one on carb screws and can't say if doing so is a good idea. Also remember thread chasers are not thread cutting dies, they merely clean and straighten threads.
