Hard disk recorders?

I have Sky+, which is great, but I need to advise my parents what to get. They can't have a sky disk (they live in a flat and can't attach anything to the walls), and anyway Freeview is enough for them. Anyone got any comments on which box to get bearing in mind that they are in their 80s. So ease of use is what matters, not complex functions.

I have a sony hard disk recorder with built in DVD and freeview. One box does the lot including burning the odd episode onto DVD for keeps. The EPG is pretty good as well.

Am I correct in assuming you cannot copy your recordings to DVD with this product?

Me too. Very easy to use.

I got my Mum who is 78 a Humax 9200. It took a while for her to get used to it, now she is recording stuff and series recording her favourites. etc.


She does struggle occasionally and has wiped a few recordings by mistake. The Humax does have a few unintuitive commands which she does have problems with. It would not phase us youngsters who are used to menu driven stuff but older people can struggle.

USB 2.0 port for connecting to your computer to archive your favourite programmes to DVD or use the VCR Scart to a DVD recordor.

That was why I chose one with a built in DVD recorder. One box solution. Easy dubbing and no arsing around with spaghetti junction at the back of the telly.
