have alfa 156 1.8 computer says v.d.c system failor can someone explain what it means can it cause damage thanks.

When the error shows the VDC system is not operational. It's a common fault in cold and damp weather. You will probably find the error goes away when you restart the car. It's either one of the wheel sensors that has a fault or more likely a low battery voltage. If your battery is more than 4 years old it's getting near the end of it's life.
