Group A vs Microlight licence

Morning all,
I'm currently living and working in the Middle East but will return home to the UK towards the start of 2010. I'm considering training for either my PPL or PPL(M) while I'm out here but I'm not sure what additional qualiications / training I will need in order to be able to fly in the UK. Can anyone help with this?
I'm also not sure if I should go for my PPL or PPL(M) licence. Once I return to the UK my flying will be limited to probably around 3 hours a month due to both cost and time availability. There are two airfields near to my home (Edinburgh and Fife airports), both of which are around 15 miles drive and can provide fuel, servicing and hangarage. I will be happy to restrict myself to flying in the UK and do not see the need for an aircraft with more than 2 seats.
I do not intend to make a career out of flying. My reason for wanting to gain my licence is purely for recreational use.
I would like to limit my monthly spend on flying to around GBP200. This is a total figure and will need to cover all costs. I would prefer to buy into a group as it is unlikely that I could afford to buy, hangar, insure and maintain an aircraft by myself.
Costs for getting my licence here in the UAE are around the same or perhaps slightly higher than back in the UK although there is the big advantage of sunshine for over 300 days a year.
Any advice gratefully received.
