I have been toying with the idea of building an ultima for quite some time now, but i am a bit concerned with the costs involved. I live in the states, and was wondering what the bare-bones minimum cost would be for building a GTR. If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated.

This question comes up a lot, and it's like asking "how long is a piece of string". It entirely depends on what sort of spec you want to build it to. If you're like most people here, you'll start by thinking of going for a fairly "sensible" spec, then when you get the order form in front of you, and all of those lovely options are just begging to be ticked, you end up selling the kids

Yes i know exactly what you are talking about. When i doing the calculations for the options i found myself saying, "well i think i need that, and well that would be very nice..." and voila! i was at a total of 60k USD.

Does anyone need a kid? a trade maybe?

I'm in Arizona and should receive my kit in a couple months. Bare-bones is a relative term. There's a number of creature comforts and items like the rear wing and AP brakes that start adding up. There are a number of basics like instrumentation that you need regardless of where you source the parts. I couldn't see how you could do a bare-bones (safe and driveable) for less than $35K USD less engine/trany. Unless you fabricate your own parts and own a machine shop.

You could source engine/trany for under $10k. But that also means less HP.

My total cost from the factory is a little under what you came up with. You also need to remember that customs fees etc are not included.

FYI "I did not go the inexpensive route" and you do get a higher return on daugters than sons .
