I'm sure I saw a post in a thread on here yesterday were someone said they've been doing some new development work on the AJP.
I've looked for it this morning and can't find it now was I dreaming or can someone help?

Thanks thumbup

Hi Dave,
As you know I'm lurking on this forum but can't remember any AJP development posts except the '4.2 Induction' thread.
Have you just been dreaming about an AJP in your Griff??

See you Sunday?
David

Don't know about the thread you are looking for, as an example of 'improvement' the pistons on my build have a slightly different pin positon to improve the pin angle, not sure how significant it is but if you are getting new pistons designed and built might as well sort out any legacy shortfalls.

Hi Dave, yes seen that thread but it's not in there. Maybe it wasn't on this forum as peole have been talking a lot about putting AJPs in Griffs. So yes maybe i have been dreaming about AJPs hehe

The actual phrase was 'reworked AJP'

Probably will see you Sunday.

Jamie at Castle Race Engines was talking about a reworked AJP ie seemed to indicate some inherent design shortfalls needed addressing and (I think) he was looking at that .. might be worth giving him a call ?

''inherent design flaws'' .....this is the sort of statement that makes me think my cerb is one day going to go pop for no apparent reason.

I keep seeing 6 to 8 year old cerbs for sale with 30K plus mileage stating 'full engine rebuild'...why...?

Then i hear about a mythical cerb with 125K on the same engine...?

wonder which my engine will emulate....its done 37K and seems spot on oil pressure and emissions wise (just checked at TVR Hexham HC).

Suggest you look up old threads for this debate.....? Basically the AJP is a good engine and is very reliable for a small volume engine. As the cars get older, the number of owners increases, the servicing care reduces, the mileage piles up etc then the chances of a rebuild increases.

That might be mine! smile Although its up to 133k now, not been used much recently due to other interests, but still seems ok. 1997 4.2, probably with the 'small' journal crank.

There are others now, like BCA's that are getting up there too.

133K - good inning's for any 'performance' or 'tuned' motor really...wonder how that compares to the 'average high mileage' ferrari, etc (if there is such a thing?)

smile Sorry to have kept you waiting Joo! A pleasure as always to see you, the old Cerbs still going strong, just a shame TVR didnt think to spend an extra fiver on rust protection... hehe
