Ok, probably a daft question, but can it be done?

The front fixing doesn't look that different, nor do the cant rails (ok, maybe I need to look closer!), but has anybody considered a modification?

I must admit I haven't been able to take the complete roof off the temporary S2 I have, due to the weather, but it does seem to be a HELL of a lot easier to use than the S1.

I don't really like the look of the short roof but I would live with it for the convenience!

The roofs are excetionally different.

Why do you not like the idea of an S1 hard top? Friend of mine has one on his S1 111S and it looks very good, works with the car's lines.

Also the S2 has a dip int he centre of the roof; even if you did all the modification, it would look slightly odd in my (very humble) opinion.

Agree with Tony. It would be a huge job. Even more of an issue is that the entire shape of the roof is different from all angles. It would look very wrong. Hard-tops are not ideal for quick removal and refitting anyway. Get an S1 hardtop imho.

Ahhhhh.

They are completely different - for example, the S1 has side bars that come out. On the S2 the side bars are a part of the roof. As Shanghani above says, they are very different shaped roofs also and I suspect you'll have problems with leaks.

If done right you can get the S1 roof on in 90 seconds, and to be honest the S2 short roof still takes 30 seconds so i think it would be an AWFUL lot of work for not a lot of gain and a slightly odd look.

The roof on an S1 is, how can I say, a character of the car biggrin

It's a nice idea but nobodies done it before and I think that shows an awful lot

Hope that helps (and sorry it's not a positive answer biggrin)

Then you're quicker round the car than I am. I think I manage 3 minutes... And that's with cheating, by doing most of one side first. I find it's taking it off that's the problem - it always takes time to get in the bag, and stow the props away.

I think eliseparts is working on an S1 roof using S2 type fixings - ie a lot less hassle than the current S1 setup which is a joke. Might be worth phoning and asking how far along the idea has got. It would need to be a custom setup as the roof shape is different. If anyone can do it, geary can.

Thanks for all the info.

If elise parts are on to it, sounds good...

I think it's not just the hassle of the S1 roof - I can live with that, and the leaking... It's just that they all break at some point. I have been so careful with mine. It was new when I got the car some 3 or 4 years ago, but still have a snapped front plastic strip (in the middle, despite not ever putting it away bent), and two curled up corners that do nothing for the look of the car! The cable fixing on the S2 looks so much better.

Sorry for multiple postsrolleyes, I meant the S1 soft top roof looks better because it contines over the roll bar and improves the lines of the car. I'll get back to work now...getmecoat

If its any use, I just got my roof refurbed by Lotus and it looks and works like brand new. And all for £82. Well worth it. That said I'm interested to hear that Geary is developing a short roof. Will see how that turns out.

I think I've changed my mind... I had snow blowing in from somewhere on the S2 this morning!
