Had some new drive shafts fitted yesterday at monkfish & asked Roger to check the reversing lights, fuses ok so took the switch/box off that controls the lights and put a wire across it and they worked on the car.

Problem is I think it is an actuator rod or something from the gearbox that has failed, to remedy it would need the gear box rebuilt, and I don’t think so.

Question asked to see if it can be changed easy enough by a manual switch for cost over gear box removal?

I have a manual switch on the dash to operate front or rear parking sensors so I am hoping the install company who fitted them can come up with a solution by using said switch to operate the reversing lights. Problem I see is that switch leaves sensors on, either front or rear.

Your assumption with reverse sensors is the best and simplest method, eg just wire direct to same switch your reverse lights so when you switch on sensors for parking you're reverse lights come on, only issue really is if you moving forward and have left sensors on eg reverse lights on.
Don't know how it affects mot situation.
There shouldn't be too much wiring envloved, just run a wire from either point they proved reverse lights to your reverse sensor switch so when switch is put on it completes circuit and have lights.

Thanks for that, yes my only concern would be about are the lights on when switch is set for front sensors, good auto electrician will no doubt sort these issues.

Cheers
