Update firmware: necessary?

Hi, I'd like to update my E300 Olympus.

The fool I am I can't find the original cd . . . I never updated the cam before.

A few questions:

- do I need to update, or won't it improve quality / functionality much?

- where can I find the update without using the original installation?

Info on the firmware updates is here:

It seems to say you need to use the original software to download them though, so I can't help with that bit.

You do not need original software with my Nikon. You go to the Nikon FW download. Then download to a formatted memory card in the camera, then download from memory card to cameras brain. With Nikon it really is that easy
