Just got my new shocks today smile One pair are longer than the other, whereas the old konis that came off are about equal. Does anyone know which ones are supposed to be longer? (it's a v8s if that makes any difference)

The supplier reckons the longer ones go on the back, having fitted them and put the car on the ground the front is scraping the floor and the back is about an inch heigher than it ought to be.

There were some revisions to suspension pickup points on the rear of the S models, but generally speaking the lengths front and rear are the same. are you sure youve not been given a griff/chim kit instead?

I'm considering uprating to Nitrons...how much of a difference are they to the original Konis?

My GAZ shocks were slightly different length front to rear and the longer ones were at the rear IIRC.

Question: You have fitted the stronger springs at the front haven't you?

I fitted the ones I was told go on the back on the back. I'm not certain what the springs on them are.
Having wound the spring seats up a lot on the front and down a bit on the back it's now sortof almost where it should be height wise.

It feels a lot nicer than the konis on smooth bits of road but it's not entirely keen on bumps, it behaves itself but it's quite harsh. The right rear koni was leaking and it had a tendancy to try and kill you if you hit a big bump on a bend.

Having now spoken to the supplier about it, rear nitrons on a v8 should be longer than the fronts.

Free lengths should be 331 on the front, 351 on the rear. The difference between the two is about that.

spring rates are supposed to be 325 and 300, front springs are definately 325, can't easily see the back ones until I have the car in bits again tonight

Who is your supplier recommending those spring rates? The reason I ask is that my V8S came with those same spring rates on its Nitrons. To say it was cr@p would be being polite, but I don't know who supplied/fitted them for the previous owner. The fronts were too soft and bottomed out under hard driving = poor ride & handling. I put 400 on the front and switched the 325 to the rear. Much better thank you, by my reckoning anyway.

Ah, well I'm pretty sure TVRcarparts did not exist when my Nitrons were originally supplied, so perhaps those spring rates are just the standard rates as supplied by Nitron. Still, you might like to consider alternative springs. I'm sure somebody such as Mr Trackcar could advise you much more expertly than I. Over & out...

I bought springs for my AVO's from Absolutely shocks and they recommended 325 front and 300 rear, I did say I just wanted to use the car for general purpose road use not track.
I haven't driven it enough with them on to judge really.
