Just had the brakes installed today and am in the middle of bedding them in.

What i want to know is a couple of things ive found which im not sure is normal.

1st, When stationary with the engine running there is about an inch give in the brake peddal before i can feel it bite, also when i push harder i can almost push to the floor but to quite and then peddal springs back.

2nd The handbrake is riding high and slipped a couple of times when parked on a hill.

Although i'm in the bedding in period i dont feel that i can stop a lot quicker than before, does it take a while before i acutally start to notice a difference.

Many thanks in advance, just want to put mind at rest otherwise need to get it sorted.

Cheers

Got to say when I had mine fitted first touch of the brakes cold would have you through the windscreen run in or not so something is not as it should be, if you can find a Lucas brake centre near you they can test the brakes on rollers & give you a print out of brake efficiency, sometimers this is foc too, I use the one at Micheldever Tyres north of Winchester, I'm no expert just my experience.

Brakes can feel a touch spongy with new pads....but just in case there is a bleeding/air lock problem...drive very cautiously until they have bedded in. Which shoouldnt take that long really...

As for the handbrake....sound like either the cable or shoes werent adjusted properly.

If pedal doesnt improve, have things checked out promptly by someone competent to do so.

Something is not right as new brakes will work very well after only a short drive, bedding in just readies them for emergency braking. Soulds like you have alot of air in the system and the handbrake has not been adjusted right. Who fitted them?

compared to standard brakes you should KNOW you have AP's. if you don't you have a problem. AP's aren't subjective, they bite like a pitbull that hasn't eaten any children for a week or two... get em checked out.

GOt them fitted by a tuning company that tune drifting motors so i thought they would be up to the job obviously not.

If i take it somewhere like kwik fit for them to bleed the brakes them am i going to need to supply them with some AP racing brake fluid as opposed to the standard stuff bought from Halfords say??

I would visit Mark or Roger to get them checked out. I had mine fitted in the summer and they didn't exhibit any of the symptoms you describe. To test them out I stamped on the brakes at 60mph on a clear, dry road and locked all 4 wheels; a bit excessive I know but as the man said - you know when you have APs fitted as they are a world away from the standard brakes.

I had mine fitted by a company local to me did not have any problems, they are a reputable garage and did the job. I would take it back to the garage who fitted them and get them to do the job properly. You paid to have them fitted and they come with comprehensive instructions.

It is astonishing how quickly they stop you. When I take people out for a ride in the car, they comment about noise first, then brakes, then the acceleration!

I have also hammered it up and down many different mountain roads (Stelvio, Ventoux et al) really abusing them and not once did they fade. The wheels did turn red though from the dust confused.

I must admit I'm not that impressed with my VXR brakes which were fitted by a local garage, always feels like I need to pump them a couple of times before setting off. Seems there's a procedure that has to be followed when fitting new brakes and bleeding them on the Monaro or you can end up with air trapped thats pretty damn near impossible to get shifted. Think it was Roger at Monkfish mentioned it when I described the problem. The brakes work but they do feel spongier than the old cv8 ones did. Could be you've got the same issue?

NOOOOOOOOO Don't take it to anywhere like kwick fits and you shouldn't have AP Racing fluid in your car if it's a road car. Best bet is to take it back to who fitted them and get it bled through again and the handbrake adjusted properly. If that doesn't work take it to someone who knows what they are doing.
