Brother went off to the far east 2 years ago, and has just sold his house. He cant be arsed coming back.

He asked me to just go through everything and anything I didnt want throw away.

I found 400 Marlboro reds, (Chinese F1 Special Packs lol) still sealed in their cellophane. Are they OK to smoke? I am guessing they are almost 3 years old!

Smoke them and see, what's the worst that can happen with dried tobacco.

Got a packet of them from about 2001. They smell the same. I've not had any complaints when I've given guests one.

If they are sealed, they should be fine. Tobacco does go dry if exposed to the air, but they might be alright. You'll know as soon as you spark one up though. If you cough like a consumptive cancer victim, then you know it might be an idea to bin them.

I have a letter from Imperial Tobacco which states as follows.

RE Shelf life of Cigarettes

I refer to our recent telephone conversation in which you requested that I confirm the shelf life of cigarettes.
This is a topical issue at the moment. I was recently asked by Customs& Excise to clarify our view of shelf life.
I confirmed to them that all our tobacco products will remain in very good condition for 12 to 18 months provided they were kept in normal storage conditions.Normal storage conditions would exclude hot or very damp conditions. The period of time could be increased if they were kept in cold conditions e.g. a freezer. The condition of tobacco products is governed by the moisture content, but even if they became drier they could still be smoked, although they would taste harsher.
Hand rolling tobacco and cigars for example can be easily reconditioned by exposing them to moisture, indeed there are commercial products available to recondition cigars. To recondition cigarettes however would be more difficult.
In conclusion, it would be wrong to suggest that tobacco products had a "shelf life" for the above reasons.
I hope you find these comments helpful.
Yours sincerley
Imperial Tobacco.

Should be ok if sealed. In the dark days when I used to smoke, I would find they went too dry if left without cellophane for over week or so.
