does seem to be one of those apparently perverse decisions which councils get criticised for, although same time if they argue that the christmas tree lighting ceremony is for children but they are not able to go/or enjoy it because some guys like to dress up and fire muskets in the air maybe a reason to look at it. Just because it is 'tradition' doesnt mean it needs to be carried on indefinately, I am sure there are plenty of re-enactments they can go and fire their muskets at.

According to the report they've only been doing it for the last 8 years. Not really that much of a tradition...

I think perhaps it was the Dorset councillors that were scared by the sound of the muskets.

Children are not normally scared by the sound of fireworks.

Another case of a minority activity, they feel they can ban it because it does not have mass support.

I'm waiting for the Royal Artillary having to give a twentyone baloon salute for the Queens Birthday in Hyde Park.
(Or has that already gone, I've been abroad a while)
