Living near Chester / Northwich

Hello there,
I've just started a new job am and intending to move a bit closer to it once I have passed my probationary period.
The job is in Northwich and I was hoping to find out where is half decent to live around there? I had a think about Chester, but it can be quite pricey to live there.
Ideally somewhere with a bit of nightlife (ie Chester) but cheapish to live (in particular car insurance as I am only 20).
I'd be looking to rent a room initially, then move into a houseshare possibly.

You wont in Northwich/Middlewich or Rudheath as a rule - there are pockets that are decent as with any location but if I were you I would go a bit further out to Davenham, more expensive tho.
Best thing is to look at rightmove.
Northwich and Middlewich have loads of pubs so its not too bad, not as if you are stuck in the middle of no-where.

Thanks Claire, the office is actually just next to Rudheath.An independant Agency in Middlewich is Townbridge ( http://www.townbridge.co.uk/ ), they may be able to help you. Middlewich is reasonably cheap to live in but its rapidly filling up with travellers who seem to want to settle down... they're a pain in the towns rear imho, one of the reasons I moved away.
Chester is about 30 minutes away on a good day, but getting in and out can be a pain. As the early poster suggested, if you want proper nightlife you'll have to head nearer Manc tbh.

Frodsham is quite nice, apart from the GATSO that brought my mum up to 12 points (in 17 months!)

One thing I am worried about, in a city there will be high demand for 'lodgers' whereas in quieter places people might not think there is a market for it. I will have a look when I get home tonight as I cba using IE7 and a trackpad

Agree with that, although of you did choose to live in either Chester or Manchester then you're commute would the opposite way to most of the traffic, so shouldn't be bad. There are lots of "nice" places but they'll all be pretty quiet.If you're not going to move until you've completed a probabation period then that does give you some time to gather intel.

The only negatives would be the number of Runcorn slappers it attracts on a Friday / Saturday night - although you may be single and fancy a bit of council estate rough every now and again.

I've got 2 and a bit months until my probation period is up, so I think that is enough time to look round, and work out the market.

If you drive everywhere then it really doesn't matter where you are.

Just be aware that whilst geographically close to Chester, public transport links are not good (even in the day), so if you are used to relying on buses or trains to get you home after a night out, you will need to re-adjust. Price wise I suspect it's not cheap, but Nantwich had a couple of lovely country pub type places.
