While I understand the frustrations of some PHers post with respect to the British government, more often then not it seems to be a ludicrous exaggeration to excuse whinging about Mr. Brown.

How much of this is just out of hatred of the labour party, or how much of this is because of what B&B did to it?

Britain has some huge social problems, amongst other things, and I almost never see discussion about these sorts of affairs (aside form bombastic Shannon Matthews related headlines), but instead ridiculous allegations of Brown's "Mugabe like behaviour". While I don't agree with Gordo or particularly like the fellow, but this seems over the top.

I suppose what I really want to know is just what state the political climate has fallen to in old Blighty. As a colonial I don't have the benefit of being able to directly examine what is going on or see the looks on peoples faces as it were, but is it really that bad?

Historically PH was populated by what can I say... well owners of fast cars.

Most tend to be Tory boys and right wingers, so a Labour government isn't ever going to be popular. Doesn't help that they have a fair few retards in power right now.

I did assume there would be some demographic bias by virtue of that, but I didn't expect it to be quite so pronounced.

it's because, for my part, that Brown stands for most things that are wrong with our once great nation. Failure, apathy and bad behaviour are rewarded while honest hard working folk are persecuted through taxation and regulation to pay for Brown's client state of dole scroungers and an ever increasing army of faceless bureaucrats on a one way crusade to erode our freedoms.

It's a completely unnatural state of affairs and poses massive, truly massive problems for future generations.

Thanks to the Labour/Blair/Brown era, the UK is now FUBAR.

Hardly suprising people are pissed off considering the mess they've got us in!

Well that just it, I'm heading across the Atlantic in the new year for a few months, haven't decide exactly where to piss about but, lets just say the continent is looking appealing.

I think you'll find it's worse than bad.

Not just good old GB and his chums, would you believe the local councils are attaching microchips to dustbins to establish what rubbish we throw away with a view to sending a fine if we accidentally put a bit of glass in the bin rather than recycle it.....Imagine if we had discussed that 10 years ago, we'd have all thought it was a joke and simply not possible.

Under New Labour we have become one of the most watched societies on earth to the point where we really have little or no freedom left.

Don't forget shortly all internet use will be monitored so we'll have to watch what we write as well wink

I think there is a certain element of "following like sheep" here on Pistonheads, I mean I have voted Conservative in every election since the early seventies, but I do get the feeling that anyone who sticks up for Labour (for whatever reason) on here is shouted down instantly, so some PH'ers are "reluctant" to publicly stick up for "t'other side"......

The Tory's are by no means perfect.....anyone remember the "fuel price escalator" of 1993??......

Sadly the state of affairs is so utterly dire that economists have said we (yes that's the UK, bastion of finance, opportunity and industry) is now the WORST placed nation to withstand the world financial crisis. Debt is, or will be, something like £1 TRILLION.

We have had 11 years for Gordon Brown to prepare the country for any kind of downturn and he's squandered all our money. The lot.

This is the 'most successful' chancellor that sold 60% of our gold reserves at a 27 year LOW. Then he tried to gag the treasury, saying it was 'Not in the public's interest' to know. The list goes on, and on, and on...

The sooner they go and the Tories start clearing up the mess the better.

eta
Most of the Tory ideas that would raise capital were continued by Labour only increased to the nth power...

I agree.

I don't support either Labour or Conservatives, however the labour abuse on here often boarders on the non-sensical.

We have people blaming the world's financial problems on labour and people really just taking any chance they get to attack labour.

It's obvious this is a pro-conservative board but it gets more than just a little tedious sometimes. In fact I can't even be bothered to read any political thread on here as it's normally just another chance to spew bile at labour and it's hardly like the conservative government have been a success in the past.

I actually think they are all as bad as each other and for anyone expecting a change when the torries get in (which i am sure they will) are in for a shock.

I don't particulary like gordon brown but then I can say the same for cameron too.

I'm off to vote the monster raving loony party next I think smile

There is a general dislike of abdication of responsibility and incompetence here. The current government has demonstrated both in spades over the last 10 years so are obviously a target of our ire.

I think perhaps it’s because most on here are tax payers. From a purely personal viewpoint, I did resent the amount of tax I paid to support the non tax payers – some of whom had kids who would terrorise innocents on the street just for fun, terrorising people who no doubt contribute to their housing, benefits and designer clothes. This, coupled with GB stating that these people need even more help, courtesy of raping the tax payers even more, so that in real terms, non working, in some cases I have no doubt, are actually financially better off than a couple working 9-5 Monday to Friday.

Then there’s the ‘War on terror’, which was based on a lie to please the US, there’s the whole ‘politics of envy’ thing, where it’s OK to deface private property in the name of the religion of MMCC – there’s the raping of the pension funds, mismanagement of public finances, meaning in real terms, the UK is in a worse, much worse position to deal with the effects of recession, than most other countries.

They have affected the populace so much now, that when every ban on something is announced, you all welcome it – ID cards are going ahead aplomb, taxes are going to cripple the working population to pay off GB massive mistakes, and of course, keep paying for the ever breeding welfare leaches (I do not include the genuinely needy and people who looking for work, this is what the welfare state was set up for, and rightly so). I also heard this morning that of the 1.8 million jobs created under Labour, 1.2 million are public sector jobs – doing what exactly?

The UK is a great country, but Labour once again have brought it down to its knees by overspending, failed social engineering, and made it, on the whole, a much less tolerant society as it was 20 years ago – which I think stems from their politics of envy/divide and conquer policies.

The UK deserves better, even if it equates to the lesser of two evils – it’s not healthy to have at least 5 million of state handouts whilst the private sector is constantly shrinking, and public sector, (which contributes what to the GDP?) grows ever larger.

I used to vote labour, but now, as a tax payer, married with kids, I simply could not afford to vote for them ever again.

Good post.

My parents have always voted labour and as a child, the impression passed on was that Labour was for the hard working majority. For a long time this has not been the case. Causes some interesting political debates when my parents visit.

A society that rewards laziness is just broken (he writes laid in front of the fire with a beer).

Whats tedious is that people who have no understanding of econonmics can post such complete and utter BS. He pissed away huge tax reciepts and rode a wave of increased debt for all and called it and end to boom and bust. He failed to regulate banks, failed deal with pensions, failed to create jobs (subtract the number of govt sector jobs from the figures these morons publish).

Most people with an intellect do well and drive nice cars. If you are a Labour supporter I pity your lack of intellect.

I'm not great at the long-winded stuff, but for me it's simple - every single time I see a Labour minister on TV or listen to one on the radio I always end up scratching my head and simply thinking that "They just don't get it, do they?".

It's called Socialism. That's just another form of Communism and any other fancy leftish fetish that takes from those that have and gives to those who want it.

Those that have will have worked for it.

It's the promise of wealth without labour is what keeps them being voted back into government.

This country is becoming a pressure-cooker. Increasing numbers of non-essential public sector workers added to a non-working underclass and incomers who have no intention of contributing will, eventually lead to a melt-down of society.

Has it all gone too far?
