I have recently bought a 54 plate 530d with iDrive and Sat Nav. The disc is a 2004 version running from the DVD/CD drive in the dash.

I can't believe how bad it is.

It regually takes ridiculous routes e.g. rather than staying on a dual carriageway it will try and get me to take back roads - and this is with the settings option set to fastest not shortest route.

Equally annoying is that it doesn't recognise a lot of street names - and I'm not talking small back roads but proper london streets e.g George Street, W1.

Does anyone else have this problem and, if so, know of a solution.

Thanks

The mk4 dvd nav in the z4 was much better at routing after I updated the software to v31 (not i drive)

I also bought a new nav disc to correct the roads smile

Have a search for BMW 2009.1 on somwhere like www.btjunkie.org and see if that helps.

I found the BMW routing good, but the 2004 disc is using 2002 maps!!

X5 world navigation FAQ has good information and links to the latest firmware

I not convinced that even a fully up to date BMW Mk IV Nav is a good as a TomTom 720, so I just got a Brodit mount for the TomTom instead of updating the Mk III

OK I can find it and I guess download it as a file. 'Cos I'm a bit new to this 'torrent' stuff what do I do next? Is is as simple as burning it to a CD (or DVD - which format) and replacing the one in the sat nav drive?

thanks for your help

That reminds me of when I bought my 320 with the same (ish) system.
The previous owner had the wrong settings.
I think it was on shortest route not quickest route,
anyway it works great now (ish again)

Torrents are just the files broken down into 100's of pieces, you can then get those pieces from anyone who is online who is sharing them, so you can get 50 different pieces from 50 different people at 10k each, meaning you are pulling it down at 500k.
Far better than downloading it from one person at 10k.

You need a torrent app to look for all the pieces out there and put them together.

I use Utorrent on the PC and Azerus on the mac. Utorrent is great as it is tiny and doesn't use up resources.

Download that first, then go to www.btjunkie.org or any torrent search site and search for what you want.
