Hello all, I have a 390 block with some 428cj heads fitted to it and a tri power holley carb setup, It has new pistons and rings with a +30 overbore, standard rods and crank, Apparently in standard form they make 401 bhp so im guessing mine will make a little more with the overbore and better flowing heads! Just wanted to know if anybody knows what this sort of setup is worth or can anyone recommend a specialist or part supplier please?. cheers russ

That depends whether it's a genuine 390/401 FE from 1961/62 (either T-Bird spec or Galaxie spec) which was the only years that engine was an option......?

Or whether it's 'just' a hydraulic cammed 390 with CJ heads and an aftermarket tri-power setup, in which case it may well be no where near 401hp...??

An original 61-62 390/401 will be worth a lot more than a generic 390 with an assortment of bits added.
However, a good candiate for a Cobra kit that someone wants that 'original' FE look after ditching the tri-power setup.

Yanks also used to quote gross hp ie power extracted from an engine on a bench with no ancillaries attached like p/steering, alternator etc and no exhaust. When they started quoting net hp, the figures tumbled dramatically.

We used to run a series of 'hot' 390 & 428 FE's in our old race car, so have an idea what can make them produce reliable power.
I've read your post a few times and I'm still not sure what you want.
Do you want a value on what you have? Do you want a price for someone to rebuild it? or do you just want parts?

thanks for the replys guys, i just wanted to know what it is worth really, i had a few plans to use it etc but in reality i dont think that will happen so im thinking i may just sell it, regards russ
