Seen a virtually new RS4 in my local showroom and love the look of it. Will have a go in it next week. I had a couple of questions though and am hoping you guys can help out.

How bad is the DRC thing? Do all RS4's suffer from it - will Audi pick up the cost of repairing it?

What's it like to live with? I'd be using it a lot so want something reliable.

How much does it cost to service?

How often does it need servicing?

And most importantly, how much fun is it?

Thanks for your help

A few threads on here recently so worth a search for those, but:

DRC: We've only seen a couple go but a letter to Audi UK will get you a confirmation of extended warranty on DRC components and revisions being made.

Living with? Easy. Be careful getting in and out (easy to scuff the bolsters) and be careful parking (no real kerb protection on the 19s). They will do 24-26 mpg, useful boot, bareable rear seats, comfy but firm ride, usual Audi creature comforts.

Typically about 15k between services, good idea to do it annualy if you intend to drive it properly.

Fun? A blast, precise steering and very adjustable handling, surefooted confidence in all weather conditions, nothing else looks like one, stupidly addictive noise, very involving at 7/10 as well as 10/10.

Thanks Dr G - very helpful, need to give this some thought as I'd have to keep the car for some time!

Mine did about 18 - 20 round town and on country roads. I really enjoyed mine for the year I owned it. Make sure you don't pay too much for one as they are still depreciating at a rapid rate. For guidence, I was offered 39k for an 07/57 Avant with 5000 miles and all the toys last August. They are depreciating at 1,500 per month + therefore, the same car is worth 32 - 35k at the moment

Wealth of info on www.rs246.com.

How good? Very.

DRC? So long as you have an Audi warranty you'll be fine. Annoying, but some dealerships better than others at fixing this (see below).

Servicing? Audi service centres are expensive, and some are far better than others - find a good one (e.g. one that knows how to fix DRC issues) and you'll probably stick with it. Servicing schedule depends on driving style and types of journeys made.

Seats - there is an ongoing buckets versus non-buckets (aka Recaro sport seats) debate. You pays your money and takes your choice.

Fun? Yes, especially when accelerating to 8000rpm in second gear with the "sport" button on.

No, they've started going up again. Especially Avants. In black.

They are great fun. I drove a TTS yesterday and it isn't a patch on the RS4.

The servicing is about £350-450 depending on where you go and you can get it done annually as Dr G says or stick with the variable servicing. They need a brake fluid change after 2 years.

Other stuff. If you're careful the brakes will last 30 odd thousand miles on the front pads but are not cheap to replace. And by careful I don't mean drive like a nun
Tyres again will depend on what ones you fit. expect between £175 and £250 per tyre and they should last between 12 and 16k miles again depending on how you drive.

Fuel economy is as you would expect averaging about 19mpg. It goes down to about 9mpg in traffic.

If you can live with the running costs its a great car to own. Massive fun to drive, incredibly practical and just about the nicest car I've ever owned.
