T350C Boot release

Morning all

Noticed on my T350C over the last few days that the boot release is being a bit intermittent. I went to open it this morning and pressed the badge, heard the solenoid move but there was another metallic noise and the hatch did not release. I tried it a few times and nothing happened.

Then on the 5th go there was no metallic type noise and the hatch opened fine.

Any ideas? Upon brief inspection all looks to be Ok but I assume something is out of alignment.

Probably just wants adjusting, so the badge makes contact with it better or it's got water in it?

Mine was doing the same so I had Leven look at it when I had a service last week. The switches etc were all fine, but a rubber washer that held all the bits in alignment to make the contact had slipped. Took him a long while to get it back in place via the speaker panel in the boot, but works perfectly again now.

I had this trouble a few months back. Could be a number of things:

Rubber grommit on the back of the badge not making contact with the switch.

Solenoid not working

Solenoid cable needs adjusting

Bad earth

Took me ages to sort, eventually fit an internal switch as a backup just incase it happened again.

Ah, could be a variety of things by the sounds.

The wierd things is that when you press the badge you can hear the solenoid working every time, but when it doesnt release there is a metallic type noise which isnt there normally.

At the moment (especially with the cold) it appears to releaseon every 5th try!!! but it does help if I actually pull on the glass at the same time as pressing the switch.

May pop through to TrackVRoad to sort it...

Ah, mine didn't make a sound at all on teh failed presses, so sounds like yours is a different problem.

Ah, in that case it sounds like the plastic tab that is attached to the end of the boot release cable needs adjusting.

The plastic tab basically links the cable end to the solenoid mechanism and can become loose over time. It can be adjusted but is a pain to get to. Looking into the boot, the bulkhead that houses the rear speakers is what you'll need to gain access to. On our car, this meant removing the carpet on the left hand side (viewed from above) of the bulkhead. There is a small panel to the right of the left hand speaker (again, as viewed from above), on the other side of which, the solenoid is attached. You can unscrew this panel to gain access to the solenoid, it's a bit fiddly to get the solenoid out but it will come. Once you have the solenoid out, you'll be able to see the plastic tab I was talking about and you can then adjust/re-secure as required. If this doesn't quite make sense, I can probably take some photos to help explain further!
