I have my car in the classified section on PH and these are my last two enquiries.

Very honoured advertiser, I search a good Cerbera for myself in Germany. Their description sounds good. I would like to ask you to me to call your final price. It is another a way to you, therefore it must be already worthwhile for me. If price of me is interesting I am as soon as possible with you. with friendly greetings Reimund Loschen D-26188 Edewecht 0049 4486 930050 0049 171 579 in 1977

Dear Sir,
I am writing you from france, has the engine was rebuilt?
What is your best price if I pay you cash?
Cheers,
François

First one sounds scammy, the grammar is wrong even for badly spoken German, sounds more Nigerian to me rolleyes

The second one at least seems to know a little about S6 engined cars (assuming yours isn't an AJP!)

First one sounds like a scam to me, second one, could be genuine, why wouldn't he ask if an AJP had a rebuild....it could have.

Give second one a chance and answer his question(s)

Fair enough, but anyone selling there car would state if they had their engine rebuilt as it adds value. I find "if I pay you cash what is the best price" very odd I am hardly offering a finance deal on this!

The grammar is probably strange as they might have translated from another language to English using something like Babelfish

to be honest do not expect that all germans to speak proper english...

i am more wondering if their next question will be... do you have the COC??
do they know how to register a Cerb... did they do some digging??? couse even if they are serious, they will face some difficulties with registrations... if they don't know how to do that... might be wasting of time for you. What suprises me as well is that they do not ask someone like Rob Ingleby to do they inspection... way cheaper than flying over and you got an opinion of a specialist and as a buyer you look way more serious.

I did it that way.

I know these scammers are a pain but to me those 2 enquiries could be genuine (the 2nd more that the 1st), reply to them both and as soon as they start mentioning, you shipping the car to them and cheques, money transfers etc, just send a very abusive message back.

As for them registering the car and getting it overseas or having it inspected by an indy etc, if they dont ask for it, or do research around these cars then its their loss, take their money and say goodbye. (unless you really car for the car and are adamant that it goes to good safe hands)

Thats the way Ii would play it.

Yes but to be fair I would ask the question too.

he is asking best price as he is coming from france and if you are not going to move at all he may not be interested/wasting his time coming over, you may be a few hundred OTT for him but if you can compromise then bingo bango.

Why not ask him to make you an offer??

i sold my mg zt 260 to a guy in sweden. he didnt see the car except in photos until he came to pick it up. luckily he was a genuine guy. he paid money into my bank by electronic transfer on the day he came to pick up the car.... about 10 hours before he actually got here ..
he trusted me .
i also posted a car for sale on behalf of brothers garage on a mg forum, and within 10 mins a guy from lithuania rang up and after some research on the car a deal was done !! ok he was an english guy working there.

two genuine buyers from abroad...

i think that if you are careful and aware of the scams, you will know if someone is genuine.
to be honest at first with my mg i thought he was trying it on. i wasnt in a rush to sell, it was advertised on the owners forum, so it was seen by fellow enthusiasts. a lot of luck...
when the guy rang on the garage car, we first thought that he was russinn m****a. what would someone living out there want with a uk car ??
just be vigilant !

A German writing formally would say 'Sehr geehrter'. This is equivalent to our 'Dear'. Translated literally you would get 'Very' and 'honoured'.
Anyway, someone who speaks English badly is someone who speaks at least TWO languages!!

The exchange rate, with the £ now very cheap against the euro, makes British cars more attractive to our European cousins than they have been for a very long time.

With Pistonheads being a major motoring website I suspect we will see far more enquiries from Europe especially if the £ keeps weakening against other currencies.
