Hi all,
Newbie here.
Just wanted to ask a quick question about Nitron's. A friend has some on his S1 and they feel fantastic in comparison to the Konis he had before. However the spring platform that compresses or relaxes the sping is not in contact with the spring when the car is jacked up. It is only a couple of (mm) and when the wheels are on the floor the spring is under load so no problem there.

Is this OK? Normal? Anyone else do this?

Thanks

Sounds a bit odd to me??

But then I'm no expert.

Dunc.

(Just realised that is probably the most pointless reply ever!)

It might be worth a post on www.SELOC.org technical section. there are several people who post there and realy knows their Elise Suspension. Chris Randle from Hoffmans(sp?) has engineered his own variant on the Nitron (Randy spec Nitrons) someone there will know if you dont get the answer here first biggrin

Strictly speaking it's an MOT fail, but in reality unlikely to be noticed. It's because he's got the spring platform wound down low to drop the ride height I imagine.

As said, technically, this is not a problem, but MOT wise, it 'can' be....

the solution is to just get some 40Lb helpers fitted to take up the slack at full droop.

My Westfield used to be the same and it was never an issue. I wasn't aware that it was an MOT failure, it certainly never caused any problems for me but maybe I was lucky.

mine do that (lotus spec ohlins) bit of a stter the 1st time you jack it up, drive off and the spring "reseats" itself! Didnt fail its MOT last or this year

Yes i am lead to believe this is fairly normal with Nitrons. i have read many a thread on SELOC about it. Essentially as long as the springs do not fall foul of the spring platform collar you will be fine, remember when the suspension is under load there is not gap anyway. Helper springs will also help but not sure how much they cost. Randy or SteveB on SELOC would be able to help.

Mine do that (and were set for an S1 by Randy). No problems in nearly a year (but I haven't gone for an MOT yet!).

I've got Randy's Nitrons with his spec helpers and still have about 20mm of slack at full droop.
