Best way to depressurize for fuel filter change.

Most instructions on the web involve starting the car and then removing the fuel pump relay. I'm a bit wary that this is a bit close to the alternator belt and don't really want to lose a finger or my arm. Is there a better/safer way to do this?

Never seen any problem with undoing fuel pump union with rag wrapped around it....

You can also just disconnect the power at the fuel pump itself - just be careful not to short any wires to ground.

That said, I usually just wrap the connection with a shop towel, then take it apart. Most often, I take the line off the fuel rail, using the appropriate disconnect tool - much easier than trying to unscrew a hose fitting, or prying apart a push-on hose connection...

If you dont have the tool a cut down tie wrap works a treat.

OK, so it sounds like it might be unnecessary to risk my limbs .

I read somewhere else that the pressure dissipates naturally over time anyway and it's been standing for a couple of weeks now. Plus it's almost empty anyway...
