Tiny bit of thread diversion (for which I apologise) but I'd never even heard of this until yesterday, when a friend called up and asked if I wanted to go for a "Hot Rock" meal.

No idea in London, but Lava (ie: Lava Rock) in Manchester have done this for a while.

One of my least enjoyable meals ever was when on a school trip and one of the girls ordered one of these. She liked her meat VERY well done, and proceeded to bh and moan for the next half hour that her meat was undercooked. Cutting it in to tiny pieces and pushing it as hard as she could against the stone in an attempt to cremate it. Stupid bint

I know that Village Hotels do this in their restaurants - looks like Elstree is the closest...

I take customers to Gaucho for lunch fairly regularly and have never had a bad meal. However, I've taken the Mrs and/or friends for dinner a couple of times recently (to different restaurants) and have had terrible service each time. Don't think I'll be going back in the near future.

Ah, the Village Hotel, Verve Restaurant....

I've heard that to have a large rock on your table, stinking out you and the place... and allowing you to cook the food yourself... you have to pay more than having a normal "spit/dandruff inclusive" steak prepared by a kitchen monkey. Is this true?

The 'Ring is the only place I have seen it. It was fantastic, somewhere we try and go each time we go over.

Would be cool to find it as well done over here.
